I see lots of other cars in it, 997 from front, Audi TT, Crossfire, Honda and nissan....but having said all that I like it but would not change my air cooled 993 for one even if I could afford it.....I would prefer to go buy a 993 TT instead

looks promising. I like the looks. Has an element of many cars, including Lotus.

I still get a feeling of 944 Turbo S redux.

Price is too high, but haven't tested one, either.

Undoubtedly a nice car - but that's just what it is - a nice CAR. A 993 is alot more than that.....

I like it as well. Overall a pretty cool ride. I would change that grill and the cheesey "fog" lights. A CS version would be the ticket, esp. under 60K.

I like it. looks better than the Boxster IMO. But I like my 993 more.

I was at the dealer this morning and my car stood out amoung the newer cars. I received complements too. Pretty cool.

Porsche North America Press Release.

Quote:
ATLANTA, May 23, 2005 -- Porsche today revealed the first official images of its anxiously awaited new sports car -- the 2006 Porsche Cayman S. Based on the Boxster® series, the two-seat coupe incorporates dramatic new styling, a powerful 295 hp (SAE) engine, and features and options made popular by Porsche's current range of sports cars. It is positioned and priced between the Porsche 911® Carrera® and Porsche Boxster S.

While easily recognizable as a member of the Porsche sports car family, the Cayman S has its own distinctive look. Among its unique styling features are its dynamic new coupe silhouette, aerodynamic upper windshield sill, curvaceous rear fenders, fog lamps integrated into the front air intakes, exclusively designed side air intakes, automatically extending rear spoiler, and newly styled dual sport tailpipes. Beneath the new model's distinguishing hatchback is a rear storage area twice the size (9.2 cu. ft.) of that found in the Boxster.

The Cayman S's muscular 3.4-liter, flat-six cylinder engine propels the car from 0 to 60 mph in a quick 5.1 seconds and to a top track speed of an impressive 171 mph. The engine is equipped with the same VarioCam® Plus variable valve timing system as found on the 2005 911 Carrera. It allows the engine to produce its maximum torque of 255 ft. lbs. between 4,200 and 6,000 rpm.

This engine power is transmitted through the Boxster S's standard six-speed manual transmission that has been enhanced for the Cayman S with shortened and more precise shift travel. Offered as an option, the five-speed Tiptronic® S automatic transmission system has been tuned specifically for the new model, incorporating unique electronic and hydraulic control maps.

Handling and safety are enhanced with the fitting of 18-inch wheels and tires and the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system as standard equipment. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system, which allows the driver to select between the comfort of a grand touring car and the track-ready precision of a genuine high-performance sports car at the touch of a button, is available as an option.

The Cayman S will go on sale in the United States and Canada in mid January of 2006 at a price of $58,900 US.

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), based in Atlanta, Ga., and its subsidiary, Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd., are the exclusive importers of Porsche sports cars and Cayenne sport utility vehicles for the United States and Canada. A wholly owned, indirect subsidiary of Dr. Ing. h.c.F. Porsche AG, PCNA employs approximately 250 people who provide Porsche vehicles, parts, service, marketing and training for its 206 U.S. and Canadian dealers. They, in turn, provide Porsche owners with best-in-class service.

I would wager that 5.1 0-60 is conservative for a boxster coupe with a 3.4.

I like it. It looks distinctive and like nothing else on the road. If it feels even faster, tighter, and more nimble than the new Boxster S I drove, which was great, it will be a fantastic ride.

I have to agree with Mark, Tom and others - I like it. Actually think it looks better than the 997, which I think looks much better than the 996. Now, comparing appearance with a 993 is a different matter, they have a different feel. I think performance will be outstanding. Of course, I watched a Boxster with H&R springs, but no other major mods, kicking butt this weekend at the autocross. It wasn't a hp type course and his balance was really making things happen. I'm thinking with 295 hp, 255 ft lbs, sport suspension, etc. this thing will be a ton of fun! Maybe I'll need a coupe to go with my cab

ME NO LIKEY. That roofline is like the peak of a roller coaster and the car looks like it was designed by Honda, Hyundai, Toyota etc. Looks cheap.... Horsepower is too low for for a 2005 car as well. Actually all of the standard Porsche cars are too low in power output. Porsche panache is not what it used to be because there are so many other makes competing for your dollar these days; and everyone else is making big power, handling and great quality as well. They need to lower their price about $10K on this car or up the horspower to 350+ to justify the price.

I think it's outrageous that you have to spend the dollars that you do for the 997 Carrera S. You want GT Silver w/ that? Fork over an extra 3 large, ridiculous

This is the mid-engined track/DE car that everyone has been asking for. Once the first batch of Cayman's come off their leases these will be the track weapons of choice.

I am hoping that they will produce a CS version without all of the electronic geegaws ... the rumor is that the GTS moniker may be revived ... 'Cayman GTS' ... has a certain ring to it ...
