Looking for any information possible. I have a 993 C4 and put a new set of Continental Tyres 285 x 30 x 18. Car was 4 wheel aligned. After doing 2500 miles my back tyres have gone bald on the inner sides about 1" - is this the usual mileage. Any comments appreciated.
Unless you are doing lots of burnouts this is very unusual. The 993's do chew through back tires but not at that rate. Most people seem to go through two sets of backs per set of fronts. My last set of backs lasted 20,000km and the fronts are still fine. That is with a few DE's thrown in.
The alignment will make a difference as well. If it is aligned agressively for the track you will get more wear during standard street driving. Did the people doing the alignment know how to align a 993 since it has some extra alignment requirements in the rear suspension?
Its a matter of alignement. It looks like lots of negative camber on the rear. On my street car I run RS specs on the alignement which is -1 degree negative and I have great tire wear.
Thanks very much for that it is really appreciated - I am concerned though because of this 1 inch of total treadloss around the inner edge. I havn't done any track days by the way.
I am not too sure about the camber angle, but there is a definite noticable camber on both wheels, my concern is that I have just had the geometry set up by a UK Porshe approved specialist. Up until that time tyre wear appeared to be normal.
Do you have your alignment readings handy so we can see what could be the problem? Off hand it does sound like excessive camber, but the readings would help a lot.
I am going to the dealer tomorrow to pick up a copy of the alignment spec as they were not given to me when the vehicle geometry was set up. Thanks the help is greatly appreciated.

Yeah, get the specs and post them so we could see what you have there.
