I ran last weekend behind a real 993RS at PIR. I kept noticing how level and balanced that car was in the turns. He ran a full second faster than me though I was faster down the straightaway. Of course he weighed 600 lbs. less than I do. I'm considering the Motrons....

JR,
The basic Moton Clubsport package that Steve W. offers is a H&R tender spring set up @ approximately 600f/800r lb springs. This is what I have on my track car. Having been driving the Cup car which has incredibly stiff springs, I am now a believer in running the absolute stiffest springs possible. I think the max spring rate you can run with the Moton Clubsports is approximately 1200 lbs.

Here are a few a friend took at the local autocross Sunday. I won ASP and finished pretty high overall. It was my first time autocrossing the 993 with the PSS9s, TRG bars and Kuhmo V700s.

Brendan, love the evil, sinister look on your face in the second photo... Looks like your thinking, 'ok corner, wait until you see THIS'....

Is that is per Steve W.? I always thought those shocks and the "race" versions had pretty much an unlimited spring rate max. I run 1100/1250 with my JRZ's. For JR I would go very stiff to lessen the weight transfer under acceleration and to help control his 3300# car. I found that in my 2800# 993 that 700/800 were not nearly stiff enough and the car would really squat and lift the front tires 3-5 inches in almost all turns.
The 993 Supercup is like 1800# springs, right?

I have 600/900 lb springs, but can also switch over to 900/1100 lb springs. I liked the softer spring setup because it seemed more forgiving in my novice hands. In tems of weight, I'm at 3004 lbs but have to make a stock class weight of 3064 lbs. I could easily drop another 100 lbs if the rules allowed it. I have fantasies about a track friend tossing me a 50 lb depleted uranium "Power Bar" before I roll into scrutineering, but since that's cheating, I bring two 30 lb sandbags to club races for ballast.

Greg,
I recall hearing/reading that past the 1200 lb range the Clubsports would have to be re-valved. Not sure where I picked that up from? I'm sure Steve will set the record straight if he sees this.
I have not been able to find out what spring rates the Cup has. I have a (partial) copy of the 993 Cup manual and I couldn't find it in there, or in relevant back issues of Excellence.

Kevin,
If you have your suspension apart you might be able to see the stamp on the springs.
I thought you meant 1200# was the max period. I have heard you sometimes do need to revalve shocks when you use really high spring rates. Not sure what "really high" is though. I am going to rebuild my shocks after this season and will probably go up another couple hundred pounds so I will ask my shock guy at that point. Or I may even buy new shocks if he thinks it is wise as mine are about 5 years old.

I would think that the motons would have the valving for higher spring rates, although they may be closer to being maxed out.
On another note, does a stock 993 chassis w/ out a welded in cage and significant strengthening of suspension points have the rigidity for 1200/1300 lb springs? I doubt JR's car has a full welded in cage with significant strengthening. If he goes that high, the thin, unbraced metal of the shock towers might be what gives on bumps instead of the springs, causing the chassis to get gummy over time.

George,
Blair has pics from Sunday up on his site. Some of the pics are of you driving. Any requests for ordering?

Kevin, wouldn't you rather wait until you get some shots in action (from the race)? I typically buy the whole set from him, it's cheaper that way.
BTW, am I dragging something in those pics. Look at the passenger front. Did I drop that or did I pick that up? I noticed a black liner on the track but assumed it was Lou Gigliotti’s (sp?) since he went in the pits (through the exit).
