Question Wheel spacers needed. Help please

My rear wheels would look better if I could space them out about 1" further. I'd like to find a spacer that has the studs built in, so I don't have to add really long studs to my hubs. Does anybody know if such a spacer is available and where I can get a pair? Anybody here want to unload a set?

Thanks,

Steve,

You know this already but I's strongly suggest getting different set of wheels where you achieve the same with offset rather than those spacers. 1" is pretty damn big for spacers.

Steve:

Such spacers are available, but I'd concur with FF that its a bad solution for what you wish to do.

Although you probably don't want to hear this, the right way to widen the track is to use custom offset wheels.

I can tell you that big spacers are a bad idea. A set of 1" rear spacers caused my 930 to eat wheel bearings for lunch. I switched to wider wheels and the problem went away. Small spacers, 1/4" or so, as long as they are hub-centric, seem to be fine.

gulp. That's three for three with a thumbs down on my idea. I could send my wheels down to Kinesis and have new outers installed... making my 10.5" rears into 11.5". I don't believe my 295x30x18 rear tires will be very happy on an 11.5" wheel... I'll need 315s. This would make my too-skinny fronts (225x40) way too skinny, and they would need to be replaced with a 245 or so. gulp. Maybe I'll just leave the doggone thing alone.

Here's a question for the wheel bearing issue... isn't the problem that the centerline of the wheel (and therefore the load) is moving outboard. So, if you use a 1" spacer, you're moving the centerline by 1". If you change the offset of the wheel (keeping the same wheel width) by 1", aren't you also moving the centerline of the wheel by 1"? Doesn't that produce the same wheel bearing loading as using a spacer? If I change just the outer rim half (as described above) and make the wheel 1" wider, I'd be moving the centerline of the wheel 1/2". How does this all play into the comments of the naysayers?

Steve, I've got a set of spacers sitting in the garage cabinet but they are pretty small, I believe 6 or 7mm. They do not have the studs as they are fairly thin.

Steve:

If you want to try the spacers, I have a set of 1 inch ones pulled off my turbo from the PO. They are HandR or Cargrpahic, I cannot recal for sure. I do know they are hubcentric...

PM me your address and I send them down your way.

Jim,

You're a dude! I sent email to you. Thanks for the offer. Rennlist rocks, despite the few that left here!
