I have owned Porsches on and off for over 10 years and have never previously driven them to work (or even let colleagues know I owned one) for reasons know to many of us. Well, I finally decided to really drive this latest 993 to include the daily commute.
First morning that I drive it, the senior partner (who is pretty much a peer)comes in to my office and tells me "I am a d#ck for driving that thing to work". Since then I have only driven it to work three or four times. However my four other partners in the office routinely chide me whether I drive it that day or not.
I guess I have two options: stop driving it to work and hope they forget about it (out of sight, out of mind kind of thing) or say the hell with it and take the abuse. It just pisses me off that people see these cars as something more than they are.
Footnotes: One of my partners asked me why I had those big red ugly things inside the tire... I told him I only had air inside the tire. Another partner asked my why I drove it on a rainy day.... I told him it was just a damn car and I was really looking forward to snow.
They may chide you for having such a beautiful car, but they are crying all the way home in their cookie-cutter ToyotaHondaChevy.
When people pry into my personnal business and ask how I can afford such a fancy sports car, I tell them I won the German Lotto!
Gheez, your work associates suck!! I'd say ignore them and they will eventually get used to it. It's their problem they have such limited views on life.
I agree with Leo993, some people just don't get it and it's not worth the time or effort to try to explain it to 90% of the people that have a problem with us driving cars like this to work. I'm in the medical profession and still get S**t from peers. So, I just don't take it to work.
Whether we like it or not, and it's easy to forget this, our cars make a statement that some people don't like. It is however, usually limited to people we don't know, who think we're rich, spoiled, overcompensating for genetic physiological deficiencies, etc...
What's weird is that your partners know you, and are still being weird about your car.
The only thing I can surmise is that either:
A) They know something we don't know.
B) You make conspicuously more money than them.
C) They are kidding, and you are taking it too seriously
D) You work with not very friendly people.
I've probably missed some, but I would just drive the thing and I'm sure that eventually they'll get bored with needling you.
There are enough opportunities to drive my car to venues where it is appreciated. But the greatest enjoyment is starting it up, and stepping back and appreciating it myself.

Great avatar of your cute daughter. Also, I love the Randy Owen's litho in the background? Which one is it?
I recently got a 993 Cab as my every day driver. I had a Boxster S a year or so ago. I used to park it in the guest parking or in our basement so that customers did not see it. I do the same with the cab.
Drive your car and be proud of it. Some people make themselves feel better by trying to make you feel guilty about your sacrifices. Consider their comment like a medicine ball. When they throw the "waste of money" comment at you, throw the medicine ball back and ask them how much their home cost, how many kids they have, how often they travel, how much they pay in alimony etc..
That will be two hundred and fifty seven dollars for services rendered, payable through pay-pal
