Any suggestions about having one "hardwired" in the car?

I highly recommend you do it - there are instructions on p-car.com

I also recommend that you find a stealthy concealed mount for the main unit so the rest of us can copy your idea

Dave,

This was my first DIY and the instructions on pcar.com make it very easy. The most difficult part is finding where to mount the V1. If you search the archives, I believe I posted some pics of my mounting job and the V1 sits above the rear view mirror and works just fine. It is probably not the ideal position now that I have a DAS bar, but it still pics up signals in all 3 locations (F, R, S).

If you can't find the pics, send me a PM and I'll re-post them.

We love Ray ..........Back to the subject, I did mine all'a p-car.com last year and it was really easy. Mounted it above the mirror works great an is stealthy too.

"Mounted it above the mirror"
in the user manual for the V1 it says not to place the unit in front of an intenna which is built into a windsheild; doesn't that make the spot above the rear view mirror a bad spot (because the antenna is right there)?

NO. BTW, a V1 mounted above the mirror will not clear the longer sun visors on some 993 models (more in the archives).

... and here I was in the midst of spending otherwise billable time to do your search. I guess I'll quit now. But thanks for allowing others the honor of spending their time so you needn't waste yours on a 1 minute search.

Dave,

Above the rear view mirror is a great location to hard-wire a V1 or Escort 8500. Neither the w/s sunscreen or antenna interfere. Also, the rubber trim molding on the inside of the w/s provides a great place to hide the hard-wire cable. Although slightly out of eye-shot, IMO this location does not necessitate a remote display. Do pay attention to Dan's comments on the optional sunvisors.

This DIY from P-Car.com is very helpful and it what I used to guide me. I'd probably stilll be looking for a circuit that was 'hot' whenever the ignition was on....

You'll note that they ran the cable from power up the LH side of the dash. I went up the RH side, but the logic and routing was similar.

It is very nice to have the detector go on whenever the ignition is on and, as Dave said, this is a "stealthy" location. Hidden from view.

The only DIY I could find on p-car.com was concerning installation of the "remote" display. Can someone link me to the installation of the actual unit itself? I would really appreciate it.

What's up with the lazybones comments? Can't a guy make a mistake or is it not permitted on this site? In case you haven't figured it out, I'm new to this place and learning more and more each day. Give me a bit of a break...when I have hundreds of posts then you can chastise me....better yet, I don't think that it is useful to partake in any name calling at all.
