depends on the budget- but for about $2000 you could get a new head unit (ex. alpine), a killer amp and 4 new speakers (boston). boston makes really good car audio equipment for the middle of the road budget (that's what i went with). you can obviously spend quite a bit more if you think you need a sub or a fancy head unit. you can certainly spend less as well.

I am using Blaupunkt Amsterdam w/ changer, Genesis profile four bridged to drive a pair of DLS Ultimate two way (6.5"), a audiovox 7" subwoofer(with build in amp). The stock rear spks are driven by the deck amp(rear fill only anyway). Sound couldn't be better and they are small in size and low in weight also. Best of both world.

If you really want good sound this is what you should do.

Amp : Soundstream Van Gogh 500.4
Front speakers: Focal 165W Utopia
Rear speakers: Boston
Head unit: Alpine with a 4V out
A good isolation of your front doors with dynamat also does miracles.

Best regards

I've recently been looking at this. There's been a *lot* posted. Search the archives.

Sorry to bring this post back up, but I wanted to understand what Boston speakers were installed? Were they installed so the stock grills are being used? Which OEM speakers were replaced - the standard or the hi-fi?

I ask because I don't have the original OEM speakers and grills and have found very few 4x6 speakers out there have grills included. I have Boston in the front and would like a set of them in the rear too, but have been unsuccessful in finding them at 4x6 with grills.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
-Skip
