If it says "treats up to 12 gallons", then it is the 12 oz. size.

I typically use the 20 oz bottle as it is closer to our gas tank size if you fill the tank when adding Techron. However using two 12 oz bottles with a fill up is not going to hurt anything.

Look closely at the bottle. There's a difference between the bottle that says "Fuel Injection Cleaner with Techron" (or something to that effect) and the bottle that says primarily "Techron." I believe the latter has a higher concentration, which probably explains the higher price. Last time I checked, Costco carried only the FI Cleaner. Also, if the bottle says "treats up to 12 gal" then that is the small one; the bottle that says "treats up to 20 gal" is the larger 16oz bottle as Ray alluded to.

Its so confusing because reading the bottles of Techron, the description seems to be the same. Both say it will clean the injectors and carbon build up. What's the deal?

Edward is correct. I asked the manufacturer (long time a go) and they said the Progard (Costco) has much less concentration.

Just so i'm on the same page, you guys use the full 20 oz. bottle after you fill the tank? And is recommended to be done right before an oil change, correct?

Arrwin,

Put the Techron in before you fill the tank (bring it with you when you go to the station). That way it is mixed in as the gas splashes around while the tank is filling.

I think the business about using Techron right before an oil change is an old wive's tale. This stems from a concern that the Techron will seep past the rings and dilute (contaminate?) the oil. Techron is sold by Cheveron and they understand product liability very well. There is no warning on Techron bottles. There are also some Porsche dealerships that put Techron in after they have done an oil change.

There is no warning on Techron bottles.
Unless something has changed, there used to be a warning that you shouldn't do more than two? cycles of cleaning with Techron without changing the oil (and I'm sure the audience was the average 4-5 quart engine). I haven't read the bottle for years, as I typically only do one cleaning prior to changing the oil anyhow.
