Does anybody remember what a brand new spider look like? I changed the rotors and pads and decided to use the old ones to save some $ and they squeal louder than ever. Yesterday, I decided to take them a part and clean out the sticky gummy stuff on them. I lost patient and decided to grind them down to the base metal knowing it may not be right. Worst, I just throw them out like many people here do. Now, are they supposed to be bare metal or have some kind of rubber stick on the surface (where it contacts the pad's back plates).
Thanks

They are no good unless glued to the pads, that said I usually leave them off on my cars.

Haven't touched mine in 8 years; I yanked those danged things off (the spiders and the sheet metal behind them; "tore" off is prob. a better description) when I first changed pads and never replaced them. With OE pads, I just spray some anti-squeal stickie spray available at any auto parts store to the back of the pads before reinstalling/replacing them and the pads are totally quiet.
You SURE you have stock pads? I find stock pads quiet; track/competition pads are another story; they squeal like a stuck pig no matter what I use.

I struggled with squeal with my stock Jurid pads for two years. Finally (based on this boards recommendation) I replaced the Jurid's with OEM Textar pads, removed the shims/spider and haven't had a squeal since! Awesome. You have to specifically ask if you order pads if they have the Textar's as evidently both are considered OEM.
Hope this helps.

Lots on this subject in the archives. But the gist of it is ditch the spiders (that'll save you time and money), and use the OE Textars. BTW, I was told by someone long ago that Jurids were also one of the OE suppliers to Porsche and so I tried a set. Didn't like them ...dusted too much and seemed softer in feel. Stick with the OE Textars from an actual dealer. Been squeal-free for years.

Thanks for the replies. These are oem Textars from the dealer. I did a quick and dirty change on the rotors/pads, didn't bother to clean them (brake cleaner dried up and didn't have a new one conveniently) and I think that's why they squeal. I guess I'll get rid of them.

On this topic, if anyone needs a complete set of these anti-squeal thingies, PM me and I'll give you a good deal on them, brand new ones of course. I do so much track stuff that I decided not to bother.
