Default Woo-hoo! No more sloppy shifting for the 993!

I don't know about you, but I've been waiting for B&M to release a short shift kit for our beloved 993s. Well my wait is finally over:

It looks like this can be installed without jacking up the car!

That is great news. Any idea of cost, model (part) number and who might carry it?

Will it work for a C4? The RS one won't, without modification...

Why not just go with the factory short shift kit? http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p93104.htm

Just saw the B&M in the newest Performance Products catalog for $219.95 IMO, that's an awful lot for just the lever and fork. Greg has the link to the OEM lever and fork from Carnewal for what turns out to be about $99 USD. For $219.95, I'd rather get the Weltmesiter SSK which Performance Products has lowered their price to $224.98 and that comes with the lever, fork, and support rod!

I just placed an order at: http://www.automotion.com/ProductPag...hifter&type=20

I'll give my impressions after it's installed.

I have driven a friend's 996 with the B&M and it very nice. Is the factory one easy to install?

It is a very positive feel compared to the factory shifter, no slop and a shorter throw. I have had no issues at all with mine. Highly recommended.

I would just be very careful of the other products out there. You can do much worse than the factory parts.

The B&M is twice as pricey as the factory part. Why?

Uh, I think it's a little more than just a new lever and fork. Besides a reduced moment arm (which will result in shorter throws), notice how the lower portion of the lever flairs out? I'm pretty sure that this serves as a counterweight (much like B&M's 996 design) that improves shifter feel (i.e. compensates for the increase effort resulting from the shorter moment arm).

Besides, this kit looks really easy to install. I'm too lazy to jack up my car to install the factory kit.

I've been hounding the sales reps at SEMA for two years now to make a shifter for the 993. Looks like they finally listened to me!

No problem. I didn't do the install but it took my mechanic all of 5 minutes while we were building the car up for track duty.
