Hi Guys,

I guess I know what I'll be doing for the next few weekends! I didn't quite understand the ignition light reference. Is there something different between my 1995 model and later cars as all I remember is a flat round plate around the ignition switch. I thought that's what the torch on the key was for!

Cheers,

David

David,

Hi. This thread is mainly about the internally lit headlight switch.

On my '97, there is a small lamp and socket above the ignition switch, built into the fascia (how's that for UK lingo?) above the ignition switch. When you open the door and get in the car, this lamp stays on for a minute and "floods" the ignition area with enough light so you can insert the key.

I don't know if the '95's have this feature or not. Hey, be careful using that "torch" on the key ring, you'll burn the dash !!

Ciao,

Hi Mike,

Don't "flame" my torch; you need all the light you can get with the headlights on my car!

Sounds like your car is different to mine. Perhaps it's a US thing? I've just got tasteful black plastic. Of course, I may have just missed it, hidden away under the ledge like they used to do with some of the other switches on the Carerra.

Cheers,

David

David, my 95 does not have a light above the ignition switch, either. I suspect it was added in 96, or later. It is allegedly located in the underside of the dash above the ignition.

The black plate around the ignition switch is a different matter.

I believe the light above the ignition switch were fitted on cars '97+. My '96 C4S does not have it.

Here's a link a few weeks back on this exact subject, which should explain everything.

I had to use an amazing amount of force to seat the bulb properly. Use a flat surface, like a pencil tip eraser, to push it in.

So let me get this straight: 4 pages of threads for a lamp on a switch??? Amazing the time you people spend on such things ...geeeze!!!

... so these bulbs are readily available at the dealer, right?

Pushed the bulb in hard enough to practically break it and still cannot get it to work.

I can't stand it when the simplest things don't work properly..

any other suggestions?

So...since we are talking about bulbs...I noticed that on the center rear section where it says "porsche" there are 2 lights/reflectors that are towards the center, on the inside of the reverse lights... However, there are no bulbs there

Were they put there for "future" use? Or do I have a pair of bulbs more missing?

Do you know for a fact that it is a good bulb? I know it's new...but maybe it was DOA? You can probably test it with a 1.5 volt battery and a couple of cables.

I think that's for the "Euro" version which has regulations mandating fixed rear fog lights (bright red!) so people don't try and kiss your a$$ in the fog!

I think p-car has a section on adding the necessary (though IIRC it's a bugger of a job!).

Oh, and related to the topic of this thread, I'm about to try an LED in place of the bulb....(my bulb was blown)

Clive.
