Question for the group and people who have done this. I have a 993 Turbo (1997) with same issue that started earlier this year under braking. I've read through the thread and there seems to be some fitment issue when purchasing the entire retaining bracket as new but that's in the 95' model year cars. Is it safe to say that the attached one will work? The reason I ask is it's almost the same price ($50) than the grommets from Zim's ($50 for 4 of them) so why not just replace the entire unit right? My carrier says Techart on it so this is the reason I'm concerned it wouldn't fit as my wheel may be slightly different... Here are some pics as well.
I like FCP Euro but unless feedback on the URO (or shipping times) are bad I’ll likely go for the cheaper one.
Update: Pelican doesn’t have that one and the genuine is $258. FCP it is.
I developed this problem and pulled the fuse for now, but at $258 to fix a horn thought it was good incentive to look into upgrading the steering wheel.
I took an section of 3/8 inch rubber tubing I had around the garage from my kid's quarter midget race car, and cutting perpendicular, sliced off a 1/8 section 4 times (one for each grommet). I slid the sections over each grommet and presto...instant renewed spring. I tightened down the retaining frame and doubled checked to ensure the horn frame wasn't riding on the contacts, then reattached the air bag unit. Reinserted the horn fuse and the horn now works again..

Done.
Top is old (looks like a PO did the o-ring trick in only a couple of corners) and bottom is new.
Worst parts:
Getting the T30 to click into the head of the fasteners behind the wheel.
Having those fasteners stay in place when re-mounting the new bracket. A dab of a light grease or something that isn’t glue but helps hold would have helped.
Also forgot to bring my 19mm socket but had my torque wrench & lug nut 19mm in the car, so…

Thanks to all that posted above......I did the #31 Danco O-Rings from Home Depot DIY today...... in an hour's time.....straight forward.... moving the steering wheel to an easy access angle position is key to remove the 2 airbag TORX #30 star bolts via the back of the steering wheel access points........
Only challenge was aligning those star bolts on re-assembly with the airbag....patience is needed to align the TORX tool just right to screw them in as needed...
The 4 o-rings fit perfectly to restore the frame (without needing any silicone adhesive to keep them in place on reassembly, per some youtube videos, and in keeping torx star screws in place to reattach airbag from the back of steering wheel, etc...)
17MM socket to remove the 4 bolts at the corners of the retaining frame....
Porsche OEM frames are going for $200 plus now and URO reproduction frames are much less under $100........any way looking at it, it is a $200 repair....
