Question Broken windshield. Sob

Hi Folks,
I broke the windshield. The stealership wants $1500 for a replacement.
Does anyone have good idea for a better deal in NJ Hudson county?
Thousand thanks in advance.

Wow, they're really screwing you. Out here the dealer wanted $911. I think he was throwing darts at a poster to get the price. I didn't ask what the molding would be, 'cuz I became catatonic.
The best price from a glass shop was about $475, and they claimed it was OE glass and that that's all you can get for it (1998 993 coupe). A few others were under $550, installed.
Good luck, and I feel your pain

Call and check with Safelite Auto Glass. They replaced my windshield with OEM Sigler glass. I ended up going through insurance because it was almost 900.00, but they did a really good job out here in the West Coast. I got a rock chip over the weekend and they came out and fixed it today for 50bucks it came out pretty good.

Safelite used to do it for under $500, but I think they quit making (or lost their source for) the cheap glass. So you may not have any options except another dealer.

Check with your insurer ... many have zero-deductible policies on glass, especially if the crack or star is in your field of vision. Then i'd have the dealer do it, because if it starts creaking on you once it's replaced, you can get them to mess with it.

I'm in Morris County, where a couple of friends and I have had windshields replaced for around $750-$800 in the last two years. If you are interested, I'll look up the name of the mobile service.

I had a rock chip mine the 2nd day i had the car... had my replaced for the deductable. Question: do you guys have "creaky" windshields? Meaning, when i go over bumps, turn etc, I seem to get noise from the windshield area.

I had the "creaky" windshield problem. I used Pedro's Ice Wax to stop it from making noise. If you do a search you will find a few threads that detail what to do.

I recently had to replace the rear window on my 993. Dealer wanted $1K for a new one, but I got a used OEM window from LA Porsche Dismantlers for $340 including shipping (no affiliation). Took less than a week to arrive from cross country. Pretty good service.

I'm sure they have front windshields, but I don't know what they would cost.

I used Safelite recently. About $450 for glass and install and they swore that it's the same glass but just doesn't say Porsche on it (so $450 instead of $950). Since insurance was only paying $250, I opted for the $450 glass and have no regrets about 6 months later.

Question Broken windshield. Sob

Hi Folks,

Thank you so much for your support. I have an appointment w/ Safelite for tomorrow.
Last question. What do you think anyone will notice the difference, in case I go for Safelite, aftermarket (w/ the antenna molded in I hope) vs. OEM?

Thanks again.
