Default HID Install Help

I'm having trouble installing the HID kit that I just purchased from Xequipped.com through E-bay. The kit is marked H1 4300K. Basically, the bulb is too large to fit into the opening in the headlight assembly. I have tried both bulbs into both passenger and drivers side assemblies with no luck. The installation instructions included with the kit say to "check whether the hole through which the bulb will be put is too small. If it's too small, please enlarge it to a proper size with tools". This doesn't sound like a great idea. Has anyone had this problem, or did I receive the wrong bulbs? Thanks for any help.

Scott

Scott:

Many of the HID bulbs require a minor about of enlarging of the opening for the bulb. It's a small amount you can do with a small file. You would see this as the bulb hangs up at the metal base as it goes into the cast socket. Are you talking about this or another dimension?

Hope this helps

Thanks Jim, that is exacly what I'm talking about. I was just hesitant to modify the headlight assembly but now feel better about it.

By the way, I'm the guy that bought your RS wheels! I get nothing but compliments and offers to purchase. Hope all is well with you. I appreciate your quick response.

When I installed mine it didn't appear that the bulb was going to fit it in. The trick is making sure you are lining it up dead center. You literally have to close one eye make sure you are lined up perfectly and it should slide right in. If the bulb still won't fit it. Then a small file as Jim sugested is your best bet. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

No problem. I am following the recent HID threads as I am considering putting the HID kit in some recently acquired MA Shaw Turbo S brake ducts. We'll have to see how the lamp housing looks bulb-wise on the MA Shaw light.

Good to hear about the RS wheels. I still have a soft spot for the OEM RS wheels. I think that was the best look for my red car...

Regards

Jim,
You talking about running HID in your fog lights? You could play night football with Fog HID+Low HID + 100w Highs.

You could also power a medium-sized village...I guess you already know to check your wiring...

Yes, I had the same problem with my HID install, I don't have the Xequipped kit. Like Jim said, just use a file to shave the headlight housing or use a dremel. Be careful when filing the housing as the flakes may fall into the projector lens, I dremeled mine upside down.

Oh yeah...good news is that the battery is right there and lots of room for a relay(s) and more HID ballasts.

As I get older I can't seem to get enough light for the backroads...HID's are addicting too !

Thanks all! I can't do the install now until the weekend, but I will post a follow-up with the results.

John-
Hmmm... funny you should mention that as I've been toying with the idea of having both high and low lights converted to HIDs. I already have one kit in the highlights and love it.

Jim-
Do you know if that would be a feasible idea? I've already found space for 2 ballasts per side. As far as wiring goes, these bulbs are only 35w, so wouldn't that be less wattage than what we are currently running?? If so, no wiring problems, right?

I didn't have any problems with the HID bulb not fitting into the high light socket, but just yesterday when I was playing with different ballast locations, I tried putting the bulb into my low light socket and found it wouldn't fit. Mine is the Xequipped Ebay HIDs. Guess I'll look into slightly filing the socket to make them work, if needed.
