Hi all. Even though I bought my car last May, I just got around to registering it with Porsche NA. They called me right back to get my car in for the wiring harness recall. The dealer just called to tell me I need new belts. Is $300 right? It wasn't a big deal to change on my 87 carrerra. They also said a new diverter valve might be needed for $500.

Since the dealer more than likely will need to remove the alt/fan assy for the wire loom recall, this sounds too expensive, even the job by itself, IMHO. $300 equals about 2.5hrs (roughly) and $50 for parts...Seems high to me.
If the diverter valve they are referring to is the SAI check valve, they cost ~$70 for the valve itself. Sounds as though they are trying to maximize profit, unfortunately..

Sounds like their trying to make a little extra while doing the harness recall work. call around to some other dealers and see what they charge for a belt change. I would think labor involved would be 1-1 1/2 max. No comment on the diverter valve.

Maximum dealer ripoff occurring here. Replacing the belts at the time of the wiring harness replacement is trivial. They MIGHT spend up to 30 minutes getting the correct tension on the new belts, but thats about it.

I just took my 95 in for the wire harness recall and after much delay in getting the "part", I was told by the advisor that the "part" was no longer available and that they fixed it the way they did when the 95s were first recalled. I was busy with work and life, so never asked exactly what the heck they did. Anyone know what they may have done?
BTW when my alt. belt broke, I had the belts replaced for something like $100 or so from an independent

Replacing all three belts took me about an hour, including the pulley upgrade, and being fussy about the belt tension, checking it several times with the Gates tool. $300 looks about double a fair price for parts and labor.

I had my belts done with the harness recall and the total, including belts was about US$125.
Yes the dealer did the work.
Tell them to find a Boxster owner to prove P.T. Barnum correct.
Oh yeah..... This was two months ago.
