Post Subwoofer enclosure for '95 993 Cab

I've been trying to find a good way to install a subwoofer in my '95 993 Cab without tearing up the interior or consuming the rear seat area and/or foot wells.
I've looked at the solution from Car Audio Innovations but for the reasons mentioned above don't think it's right for me.
I just came across a new option (http://www.subsolutions.com/porsche.html) that lists the offering for 911s up through 1989.
I have two questions - first, has anyone used this solution and if so, any opinions? Second, how different is the trunk area and ductwork between the 1989 and the 993 series? Is it likely that this solution would work for my car?
Thanks much.

Can't help you here...no experience with a sub.

The 993 trunk layout is WAY different that prior years. I can't see how this solution would work as we have a fuel tank in the way....sorry. It looks like a cool solution.

That's funny, where the hell is the fuel tank on the older cars?

The fuel tank in the older cars sort of wraps around the spare tire at the bottom of the trunk.

My thoughts exactly! Where's the fuel tank, and where's the spare tire?? Does that sub system use the ventilation ducts for the porting into the cabin?? I think that's a very ingenius idea. Seems like McIntosh or other systems have custom setups that give trunk subs access into the cabin, but I don't remember specifics.

I have a JL Audio Microsub, and am very happy with it. I tried putting it in the front trunk, but the body sealing is too good. I risked damage to the sub if I turned it up enough to be able to hear it. It was so muffled, the quality wasn't good, and I couldn't hear distortion or other signals of abuse. I just keep my sub in the back seat, and it's easy to remove quickly. I don't know if this would be appropriate for a cab, though.

Rick:

I've got just what you want..subwoofer box which fits the contours of a 993 Cab trunk perfectly (pressure fit) covered in factory carpet and designed with quick release automotive connectors to facilitate removal when more storage space is required. This box was part of the Reuss Systems SST set-up which was made for my '98 993 Cab -- speed yellow, of course.

If interested, contact me by e-mail.

I am looking for a solution as well. My thought was to build a box that looked like a rear seat delete and mount the subs in the top deck.

Vince -
I have such a subwoofer that sits flat across the rear seats (down position). I took a few photo's of it - there posted here on the 993 forum. The active sub is a Japan/Europe market Pioneer TS-WX77A
http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/25...X77A/page.html Also, YouTube has a few video's of the unit, can't promise you'll hear much, but the viewer will get a good idea of the enclosures functionality. I paid about $235. delivered from a Germany HiFi retailer to Atlanta, GA ... On a very slo boat; 5-7 weeks delivery.

My TX-WX77A sub-woofer is in pieces in an effort to Hot Rod the mono amplifier... and potentially the (2) 6.5 inch shallow woofers with something of higher quality and lower distortion %. The flat, shallow and wide enclosure tunes nicely. Another sub-woofer mouse trap.

Wow. Didn't notice that!

Thanks Mike. That unit looks pretty nice. Unfortunately cab rear seats do not fold down. I assume it is too long to fit trunk.

The Pioneer TX-WX77A does not fit in the 993 trunk. It is a perfect fit in the interior of the coupe though. The sub enclosure in stock form worked as advertised, actually pretty dam good. Do keep in mind,,, there's more than enough acoustic gain provided by the interior space starting around 150hz and below. This lower frequency area in a 911 (old sckool 911) can get muddy fast. Proceed with caution, DSP 1/3 octave/31 band EQ at work.

There's a guy from the UK who's installed an 8" ( JL Audio I believe) sub-woofer in the space of the 993s glove box and ever so slightly below. 80hz and below performance is said to be outstanding. There's pictures of this enclosure buried in a 993 forum stereo thread. I'll see if I can fetch it..
Found the thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...placement.html #66 post is the dashboard sub-woofer enclosure picture.

The sub woofer enclosures located in the trunk are often more of a boom cycle than low frequency linearity. My .02 .. Remember, acoustic linearity costs money.
