Wow, what a Christmas present....just bought a 96 993 Targa !
Holy smokes, I don't actually believe I did this!
I sold my 83 SC a while back and have been looking exclusively for a 96 or 97 993 Targa that I could afford. Really like the Targa, and like the fact that only 462 shipped to Canada/USA attracts me. Found one 3500 miles away in Toronto (I am in Vancouver), negotiated a good price, had it PPI'ed and double checked, and then flew out to final inspect. The car is very sound with a few minor flaws (stone chips, needs brakes, tires) which I allowed for in the price. Bought the car with addition "financial incentive" and drove it to the shipping depot to be shipped back to Vancouver. Its all mine now!
It will take 2 weeks to get here...what a Christmas present!
Now, being a do-it yourselfer, and having 7+ years working on my SC, I am now ready to at least try the 993!
Cheers,
Mike
PS Here is what my new car looks like with a slight change...its black inside and has a turbo tail (yes, I have the original mechanism and can put it to original). ;-)

Mike -
Welcome to 993-Targadom...there aren't many of us out there.
Go buy a big bottle of RainX and window cleaner....you've probably got more glass to keep clean than you realize!
Have fun and Merry Christmas.

Hi Mike, congrats! Beautiful car!
I also got my red Targa in Sept of this year.
Actually I was looking for a polar silver one like yours, but had to settle for red, and come to like a lot.
Curtis is right, when washing car, seems like doing more glass wiping than washing/waxing.....
Did yours come with the original Targa wheels? Mine didn't I hope to find the original wheels eventually.
Enjoy your present! (too bad you have to wait two weeks, though)

The car does have the original Targa wheels (it also has the painted center caps...is that original as well? The PO thought so). Actually, I am not fond of the original wheels (don't like the bold holes) but I will wait to see if they grow on me. If not, I may buy something else and keep these around to keep the car "original".
I am starting to understand about buying stocks in Windex due to the amount of glass on this car...I can't wait until a sunny day and time for a drive (its sunny today in Vancouver, but the car is on the train....sigh). When it gets to Vancouver, I will drive it for a day and then put it to bed until March...I need to do some maintenance on it, and the weather is usually pretty bad Jan-Feb. Might be incented to be on the road early this year!
I like your comment on "settle on red". Just owning one of these cars is a privledge (although an expensive one!) that most people never have.
Merry Christmas!
