PPI in Houston

PPI in Houston
I'm looking to buy a 993 from RPM in Houston. Someone told me that the Porsche dealers around Houston don't do the PPI anymore. Any suggestions on who to engage for the PPI? How does it typically work - do you take the car to the mech or the mech to the car?
Also, can someone enlighten me on how comprehensive the PPI needs to be? If the car has under 50K miles is a leakdown or compression test necessary? In the case of the 993, is there anyway to get an idea about a potential valve guide issue by performing a PPI? Thnx.

Unfortunately I don't know of any independent or dealership that can do the PPI. Usually, the car goes to the mechanic.
Regardless, I would highly suggest that you a detailed inspection *including* leakdown/compression tests. The leakdown won't be able to directly tell if the valve guides are worn, but you might get an indication of any carbon build-up which is a consequence of worn valve guides. Unfortunately, AFAIK, there's not sure way to tell unless you pull everthing apart.
Its a pretty simple value equation... a couple hundred dollars mitigates potentially thousands and provides piece of mind.
Good luck!

Sonny - which car are you looking at? There are 2 places highly recommended by the group here, and there is 1 that RPM suggest. I am about to have a PPI done on a car as well.

Try Eurocar-Werk. 5103 Gulfton, close to the Galleria area. Eric Anderson is the guy to call. Eurocar maintained my 74 911 and my 79 930 while I lived in Houston. Focus of the shop is Porsche, BMW, Mercedes and Ferrari. Eric owns a 944 and Eurocar does Tech Inspections for Lone Star PCA chapter. I liked/trusted Eric enough when he servied my 911 that I bought my 930 from him. Give him a call and tell him Toby says "Hello!". 713-661-6428. Happy New Year!

Robert is just doing his job. Grin. I second Danny's reccommendation, Mike Callas at Rennsport is simply one of the best P-Car mechanics in the country. My car only goes to him.

I'll go out on a limb here and risk flaming daggers but I'll be surprised if a PPI turns up anything wrong on a car from RPM. No affiliation but the guys cars are C-L-E-A-N. Assuming you do the smart thing and still do the PPI the general concensus in Houston is that Mike Callas is the guru.
