Default Are you happy with your Bilstein HD's and PSS9's

Did you recently purchase PSS9's or Bilstein HD's with 030 or H&R Springs? Were you happy with your purchase?
Multiple choices allowed to get all possibilities...

Yes, lots of posts on this, but its sometimes difficult to get quantitative results (and since both ViperBob and Steve sell both sets, that's no help!). Besides, I'm an analyst at heart...need statistics....

thanks!

Bilstein HD with ROW M030 Springs and Sway Bars. The set up replaced OEM equipment with 61000 miles on it. Major change for the better. Only a street car but worth the money.

I have Bilstein HD's with US M030 springs (wanted to keep in stock class). I regret getting this setup because it's not agressive enough for my taste. I vote getting something like H&R coilovers or Pss9's anyday. Oh and I have RS adjustable sways but I can't adjust with the current setup.

The PSS9s were an improvement over M030 springs/sways & OEM shocks, but not the huge leap I was expecting. And not too long after I made the upgrade, I concluded that I was going every bit as fast in my (relatively) new, shiny, expensive street car as I had any interest in going. Plus the PSS9s are a bit much, to me, for daily driving on the street.

So I went out & bought a $20k Spec Racer Ford to drive instead, which I can run at 100%, and beyond, break it, fiberglas & weld it back together, and go back out on track again without any big emotional investment. I also feel safer in 1500# of steel space frame, full nomex, six point harness, HANS, fuel cell, and fire system than I did in the street car.

MSCH, why can't you adjust? Do you lose this adjustability with the HD units?

thanks

Pss9 adjustment detents not obvious enough. More difficult to adjust than they should be. Could use more damping at the top end. Soft end it too soft. Should start at something like 6 for the street
Overall they work very well for a dual purpose shock.

Robert, this is a 993 suspension thread, not a why-srf-racing-is-better-than-993-DEs thread. Come on.

I wonder why no one does RSR shocks and springs? 1400lb front and 1800lb rear should be perfect.

How does one see the results of this poll if one does not have pss9's. It would appear that the results can only be viewed if you vote.

I replaced my OEM shocks with PSS9's at 61K. They original shocks were beyond dead. Autocrossing the car before the change was a truely an eye opening experience. I learned alot about weight transfer though, as the only way I could be fast was to set the car up for the turn just prior to entering it and anticipating the body roll with appropriate steering inputs with each succeeding turn.
The PSS9's took out the roll moment and made for quick tranitions. I also have a M030 anti-sway in front with the adj. RS bar in the rear.
To say it transformed the car is an understatement.
Happy with the shocks, the adjusters are a pain. I got mine before the price bump with the updated rear upper mounts and am very content with this setup.

Man, and I thought it was a quit-trying-to-delude-yourself-into-thinking-a-street-car-could-even-be-tuned-into-a-dual-use-racecar thread. My bad.

Kelly,
You can go and vote again, i think...I checked "allow multiple votes."

Robert, no delusions here! Just looking to have a "weekend warrior-capable" car and a streetable daily driver that meets my expectations...also know the best $ spent are on lessons and track time...and am doing that too!

thanks all, john

I'm not throwing stones in my glass house; it's just like the digicam shopping thread, I had to realize that there *is* no perfect compact/subcompact camera, they're all going to have flaws and compromises. I think the PSS9 was too soft on the track (for me), and too hard on the street for a street car, so I went a different route. Besides, after four straight years I was bored stiff w. DEs. YMMV.
