Default Help with Cabrio roof closure

Hi,

My 94 cabrio top produces a loud thud as it closes. The sound is produced by the leading edge of the roof hitting the top of the windshield frame in the last 20% of the closing travel.

Is this normal?

It also has at times trouble opening, as it seems the mechanism doesn't clear the latches completely.

Mine clunks...but not loudly. You may need to adjust the cab top to get it aligned. I posted on this a couple of times in the past...here is one thread. AK

What I do is wait to top gets about 6" from top of windshield - release button and than fully close. Mine made that sound too until I used this method. What also helped was lubricating the rubber. I BTW. did not find my top misaligned, so did not ticker with that adjustment.

"Lubricate your rubber...."

I thought I read somewhere that glycerine was the right thing to use for "lubing your rubber".... might be wrong though....

Might be the ideal time to wait for the recall notice and let the dealer fix it free?? Sounds like they might be replacing 36,000 motors and realigning our tops....

Clive.

For the rubber strip on top of windshield I find Wurth Rubber Gel Stick to be the best.

"Restores and revitalizes rubber gaskets, rubber parts, bumper casings or body side moldings. Helps prevent door seals from freezing."

Boys, listen to me now and believe me later.

Adjust your transmission cables _immediately_. I can not overstate this. Next thing that will happen is one of your side transmissions will be dead. On top of thatm transmission will brake off the nut that holds it to the body. Don't even ask me how I know this.

Do the search here and you'll find adjustment procedures.

Thanks a lot. Makes a lot of sense. I guess my cables are "long", hence the final belly flop landing onto the frame.

BTW, I use Black Chrome for the rubber........
