Finally a member, wheel question - need help
Well, I just paid for my 2 year membership online. I guess that 2 plus years of lingering around (freeloading) and the Christmas spirit combined to make it impossible to benift from this wonderful community and not at least pay for a membership.
Question on wheels -
I have a 95 C2 with stock 16 inch rims. I love the car, but the wheels just look too small. I try to not let it get to me, but I am at the point that I just really would like something bigger (not worried about flash). However, I only have about 8K miles on the front and 12K on the back rubber. I hate the thought of replacing them without a need for new tires.
I would like suggestions of wheels to go to to get a better look for the car. Money is always an object for me so if you have prices that is great. What Id really like is a picture of your car if you have upgraded the wheels and are happy with what you have.
My second question is what you did with your factory rims when you upgraded? I am particularly interested in the guys that had 16" like mine. Is there are market for these? What could I expect to get (mine are not perfect, have some curb-rash).
I really appreciate any help including suggestion of vendors. I even think that 17" would look a lot better, but if I am going to spend the money, I really think I'd have to go to 18's at least.
Thanks in Advance! Merry Christmas!

Hi Kerry,
It sounds like you saved up for a good series of questions before you got your membership and now you won't be cheated. I can't really help you but wanted to thank you for becoming a member and give you a warm Holiday welcome to the board. I don't have answers for you but after the holiday wears off I'm sure someone will help. I agree 16's are a little small, so I can at least give you an opinion. go for 18's if you can. Merry Christmas and give us some pictures of your car when you can.

Hi Kerry,
Welcome and Happy Holidays to you. I am also a big fan of MY02 light weight 5-spokes for your 95 C2. I think it will give your car a more agressive and still keep the p-car traditions. Just my .02. And for your 16" rims you can always sell them. Please post some pics of your car and good luck.

My C2 had 17 Cup wheels on it, and they looked very nice. However, I had a chance to get these SpeedStar 19s with new Yoko AVS tires, so I went for it. I really like the look, but the 19s don't have the smooth ride quality of the 17s. The 19s make you keenly aware of the pavement surface.

Jdoc and Tony, what kinda money are you talking about for the MY 02 wheels? What about vendors?
Jdoc, what did you do with your 16" rims, did you do okay with them?

Wheels are subject to each individuals likes. If you do get new wheels, there are many choices, as you probably already know. The 17" cup wheels, which are commonly for sale on eBay or here on Rennlist are great wheels. Although, these days, they do (in my opinion) seem small, even for the 993.
The 18" turbo twists and the MY'02 Carrera 5 spokes look great on any 993. But that is just my taste.

17" Bigger and still a relatively soft ride. Enjoyable. Still doesnt fill the car.
18" Size looks absolutely right. Much harder ride But still acceptable.
19" A really very hard ride.
You may be able to trade in your current wheels.
Theres quite a number of pictures of owners cars in previous threads on wheels.
Some choices can be seen on TireRack website
Before you buy you may want to experience the sizes in other owners cars.
As previously stated. The look is a very personal taste.

Kerry,
The MY02's are not cheap. I purchased mine from a private seller. They were not absolutely perfect, but darn close and I got them for $1500 plus some tires that were about 50% worn. It was a great deal and I jumped on it. Occassionaly, you'll see them on Ebay but not often used for less than $2000. Trading your wheels in to an outfit like Wheel Enhancement in Culver City CA. is an option but you won't get jack for your 16's. I'd probably hold on to the 16's because there is absolutely no money to be made on them. No one wants them. If you want them MY02's, you're probably going to have to bite the bullet and pay a good penny ($2700-$2900) for a set of new ones. Try Sunset Porsche or Stoddard.
