Default Pagid, stock, anti squeal question

I have stock pads that I had installed with the little anti-squeal spider/pad/whatevers installed on them. I also have a set of Pagids I picked up on a track day.

Can I swap them for track days and still keep the anti-squeal thingers on in place on the stock pads, or is that not possible?

Thanks,

JPS,

yes, that is what I've done - took stock pads with spiders off when put Pagids on and put anti-squeal spiders on when switch back from Pagids to stock brake pads. No problems doing that.

For street: stock pads w/o spiders and no squeal
For track: Pagid Orange w/o spiders and PLENTY of squeal!

All I can say is why bother with the anti-squeal junk on the stock pads? With them off, I can swap pads (all 4 wheels) in half an hour. With those dopey spider things, it would probably take a few hours. Also, it might be my imagination, but I feel the brakes feel a bit firmer with them removed.

I'm with Matt; stock pads without this anti-squeal junk are quiet (no squeal).

Ray is right on about this. I, too, noticed a firmer pedal without the spiders, even with street pads. For track events, I just switch to my PFC's. Only about a 30 minute job. Well worth it

JPS,

Agree with the spider dissenters! I've used the OE Textars exclusively for the street for about 40K miles without spiders and no squeal. This subject comes up fairly regularly...try a search on it. Like Chris, I use PFC pads (compound 97) for the track and they are awesome ...brake feel and stopping performance is definitely worth the effort. And as Ray alluded, w/o the spiders I can swap pads in literally less than five minutes per wheel. Hope this helps

Hm. Not sure what stock pads my mechanic put on during last brake job, but they were squeaky buggers. I'll try the Textars next pad change.

But, it does sound like net net I can swap the stock pads I have (with the spiders), put on the pagids for track, then swap back (with the spiders), at least until I wear these out and then get Textars.

Yes/no?

Jos,

I suppose you could but it would not be as simple as the swap without the spiders. The issue is getting the pads out without removing the spiders (or removing them but re-attaching them when they go back in). Either way, while it's technically feasible, it would be a real PITA. For that much hassle, I would simple use the street pads for DE until they wear out and can be repaced (without spiders).

It was 60's and sunny here again this weekend - how are you enjoying NYC?
