Default Lighting up the keyhole

I think that 1998 was the year Porsche put a light that lights up the ignition area. Anyone have a picture of this. How would one retrofit their 1995-1997 car to have a light. It is not the biggest deal, but an addition that I would like to make.

my 3/95 build does not... I use the little light in the key to find the ignition. Its the "lighter weight" solution.

i have an early model 96 TT and i do NOT have a light. A dealer told me that 97 - 98 cars have the light. Oh well, but it would be nice to have, otherwise i just use the light in the little key chain head.

my previous 97 c2 did have the light.

Rob,

My vin ends in "090"... the 90th turbo built (I think). The first owner was PCNA... it was used for auto shows and possibly magazine tests. My car has a fancy-schmancy alpine aftermarket stereo with a big amp in the trunk and a subwoofer somewhere. It was installed by the 2nd owner. I have no idea what came with the car. My car didn't have a switchblade key... it has a seperate immobilizer dongle. the key itself has a built-in light... and it looks original.

Not sure when my car was first delivered. Do you realize that our old rust buckets are almost 10 years old?

steve, yes it is very scary .. especially considering what i paid for it only 5 months ago and more scary for the amount of $$ we keep pouring into it as if i were investing in the future of the child that i do not yet have.
It bought mine with 30k in may.
When does it become a 'classic' .. i need another reason to justify giving it more love.
Do you think you have the 90th TT that was made in the world, or the 90th car that came into the US?

Rob,

I've always just assumed it was 90th world-wide build, but I'm not a VIN expert... perhaps Viken will jump in here... he knows all that sort of stuff.

Its hard to know what the future will hold for these cars... they'll probably need another 20 years to determine if they will be a collectors item. My idea is to keep mine nice, but enjoy the hell out of it. I have 66,000 (s)miles on mine.

My car is a 1/95 builde (happy birthday!) and it has no light. I just changed the light bulb and battery on the key head and it works great. Could be brighter though, might do the LED mod.
