Default Clutch pedal not smooth when depressed. Ideas?

When I depress the clutch pedal, it is not very smooth going down. The clutch works fine and there is no slipping, etc. I wonder if the linkage needs to be lubricated? There is also a slight squeek when depressing the pedal.

Thanks,

Have you seen the DIY on Pcar.com? The clutch pedal is a common problem area w/ the 993.

Good luck

Does it feel Notchy? Does it click? If so, i've read threads (do a search) that suggests could be a clutch slave cylinder. The obvious answer is it may be the clutch but slave cylinder is cheaper to replace and is a common problem on these cars.

I have been looking at similar posts. (Did the search after I posted the question - duh). I will have my mechanic check the slave cylinder and lube the linkage.

New car, a little paranoid. The clutch feel on this car is so different than my 964... so are so many other things!

Also plan to have the transmission fluid changed... have the notchy shift into second gear problem.

Thanks for your help.

Transmission fluid change did wonders for my car right after I had purchased it. I had a grind between gears unless I shifted very slowly. After the tranny oil was changed, it felt like a new gearbox. Hope it improves yours as well.

As a side note, I just replaced my slave cylinder this past weekend and it made the clutch a bit easier to acuate and the pedal stroke a whole lot smoother.

Good luck w/ your new baby!

Clutch should be light, easy to depress. Could be fluid or slave cylinder. Search under robins name and clutch and you should find some old posts on this topic. Robin thought the issue was the slave cylinder, not the clutch itself.

Had this. DIY worked.

Easy but access is PITA.

Bleeding the clutch slave cylinder also helps with the smoothness of clutch pedal. Slave cylinder shares fluid with brake system, so when you're bleeding your brakes, you can also bleed your slave cylinder (not bad DIY - access a bit tight, but definitely not too bad).

I agree with others in trying to first bleed the system, then if no joy, replace the slave and rebleed. Try the less expensive stuff first. Good Luck!

If none of the easy stuff works, there is an upgraded clutch pivot assembly. I got mine from AJ-USA for about $170. The original one has about a million little needle bearings, the upgraded one has bronze self-lubricated bearings. All the "dust" from the clutch gets into the needle bearings, and then it does not work smoothly. The down side is, I believe the tranny has to come out to replace it.

Thanks everyone. Going to the shop friday for the trans fluid and flush slave. Will ask mechanic to look over the linkages for lubrication too.
