Post Can someone Carfax and check the Red Book for me?

I am doing a PPI and checks on a 96 911 Targa that I want to buy.

Can someone run the VIN through Carfax for me? As well, the VIN needs to be checked since I am not sure it looks quite right.

Vin: WP0DA2994TS385308

This should be car 308 in the 96 Targa production group. But since I do not have my Red Book wiht me (I am on the road right now), can someone check.

Thanks

Mike

Mike, the VIN # you provide does not jibe w/ the Red Book quite precisely, there is no WPODA sequence listed. Anyway, here is the info. for "T Program" cars built from Aug. '95 to July '96 (MY '96):
Carrera Targa, US & Canada:
Chassis Serial #: WPOBA299CTS385001-5462 (462 produced)
Engine Serial #: 64T00001-on (M64/23,US spec)

I would carefully examine all the info. plates & decals on the car & in the books. Prodction date, option codes, anti-theft body panel decals, the works, even take it to a dealer for examination if not comfortable. Don't believe anyone - convince yourself, it's your money!

Sliding-roof Targas are nifty & (I believe) will remain desirable in light of the new versions, esp. if a manual trans., I think they were in the minority of an already small production base. Good Luck!

Thanks!

The number must be WPOBA299CTS385308 then. You are right, I will get all the serial numbers fully checked during PPI. The car is about 3500 miles from where I live, so I will have to rely on the PPI first, and then my own eyes when I go out for the final inspection.

Maybe this can be carfaxed now?

Cheers,

Mike

All,
I think there may be an error in the Red Book on 993 Targas.

My Vin is WPODA...... and isn't in the book but Porsche validates the number. The chassis sequence number is but not the 4 character.

From another book, I got the following:
WPO:world make code
4th letter:A/C/D=Coupe/Cab/Targa
5th letter:A/B= 2wheel drive/4wheel drive
next digit:safety level:0/1/2=seat belt only/1 airbag/2 airbags
99=1st 2 letters of type (ZZZ for ROW)
next letter is year: R/S/T/V=94/95/96/97
next is S for plant (Stuttgart)
next is the 3rd digit of the type number:3 of 993;
next is the body number.
Your car should therefore be a US /targa/2 wheel drive/2 airbags/993/?/1996/Stuttgart made/confirm 993/number85308.
Only the 4 doesn't fit...It shouldn't be there at all.
I hope this helps, but the numbering is a puzzle anyway: in the same book, i got a listing for 96' targas with BA instead of DA..so who knows?

Carfax has no info on the VIN you originally supplied. It does return that the VIN you first gave out is valid, just no info....sorry.

Thanks!

I talked to PCNA, and they confirmed the VIN. Its definitely WP0DA2994TS385308 as stated, the car was originally sold by the dealership I thought it would be at.

However, the car is a Canadian car which might be why some of these search services are not working. Who knows?

Cheers
