Default Tire Size Question (285 vs 265 in 18")

Yes, after an exhaustive search of the archives, I have decided to buy Bridgestone S02As to replace my OEM Pirellis -225/40/18f and 285/30/18r. I'm thinking my current jarring ride on bad MN roads is partly due to worn/old tires (7years). Is it wise to replace the rears with 265/35/18 in an attempt to improve the ride quality?...or will ride /noise improve with fresh rubber??..Aesthetics??? (love the beefy looks of the 285s). Street driving mainly, with ROW M030 set up.

TIA

I've used both 265/35-18 and 285/30-18 in the rear, and I didn't really notice any difference in ride quality. I do prefer the look of the 285's.

You might want to also consider a 235 in front to combat the understeer a bit. Going w/ a larger rear will make the car understeer worse.

kkim- yeah, I already dialed in quite a bit of camber-so it feels OK, but thanks!
ApexL8-did you have the same manufacturers with the different sizes?

aof,
Nope, the 285's were from Pirelli: PZero Corsa, and the 265's are from Michelin: Pilot Sport Cup. They are both "competition" tires per se, but I don't think they ride much differently from street tires.

I have the 265s on now, down from the 285s. I don't notice much difference either. If you really want some sidewall, you may have to go to 17" wheels which may a bit silly on a Carrera S car.

AOF....I notice you are driving a widebody C2S... ? IMO, the 265 rear rubber may look dwarfed by the wide hips of the car.

Get the 285 wider tire, it will fill up the rear end. Can't imagine the ride difference is that much different/harder than w/ a 265.
