In 1967 I bought a 1954 plymouth with a flat head V8 with a internal engine problem. I started working on it but... after a month I had a few bucks saved up and bought a 1964 Dodge 2 door, 4 speed Hurst, 383Hi rise, cam, dual quads, Hooker headers, traction bars, scatter shield... First trip to the drag strip I through a rod through the block. May have been my second trip. I decided that would be a good time to leave for boot camp.

Let's see how good my memory is today. I have owned:

1964 Mercury Comet - Caliente 4 dr. sedan. 260 ci V8. It was anything but "Caliente".
1967 Dodge Dart - 318 ci slant six.
1970 Dodge Charger 383 ci. V8.
1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (new)
1974 Corvette 350 V8
1971 Fiat 124 Sport Spyder
1975 Porsche 914 1.8l
1976 Oldsmobile Starfire (new)
1977 Volkswagen Scirocco (new)
196? Caldwell Formula Vee
1978 BMW 320i (new)
1974 Ford Pinto (winter beater)
197? Plymouth Valiant (winter beater)
1976 Ford Mustang II V6 (winter beater)
1984 Porsche 944 (new)
1987 Porsche 944 Turbo (new)
1989 BMW 530i (new - Switzerland)
1990 Audi 90 Quattro 20v (stateside)
1993 Porsche 911 C2(new)
1995 BMW 325i (new - winter beater, new affluent lifestyle.
1997 Porsche 911 C4S (new)
1999 BMW 328i (new - winter beater)
2002 BMW 540i (new - winter beater)

Somewhere in there was a Chevy pick-up truck built in the late 60's that I owned for 4 weeks before truning a tidy profit. Since my BMW 320i days, I have alsways had a "special" car, and somthing else to drive in midwestern winters. looking at this list, I must be older than Ray Calvo!

Cheers

Well, let's see... It all started when my dad said I could have the '64 Galaxie 500, but I had to find the one cylinder that wasn't firing. So,
out came the 289 2bbl. and two months later in went the 289 4bbl. HIPO parts included. The chassis had 108k miles when I took over and I drove it until it had 148k miles. Now for the list(to the best of my recollection):

1969 Ford Galaxie 500; with 351C
1970 Ford Thunderbird; with 428
1971 Ford Boss 302 Mustang
1972 BMW 2002
1972 BMWtii
1973 Audi 100LS(fuel embargo car I)
1977 VW Scirocco
1980 VW Rabbit
1980 Dodge Monaco;with 454, what torque...
1981 VW Rabbit; diesel(fuel embargo car II)
1983 BMW 32Oi
1984 VW Scirocco
1985 Porsche 924
1986 VW Scirocco
1987 BMW M3
1989 BMW 325i

1993 BMW 325is
1994 BMW 325i
1995 BMW M3

A reliant van, three wheeler(2 in back, 1 in front) as made famous by Del & Rodney in "Only fools & horses" - UK comedy series. Big end bearings exploded after two months of ownership, the engine leaked oil and I forgot to check it(oil sender unit was broke). On one occasion I went round a LH bend too fast for the chassis and the whole thing tipped on its side. Some amused residents helped me back on to its wheels.

1955 Chevy, which I eventually turned into a race car that turned in the 10's.

Let me see if I can remember... circa 1970

350 block, 12:1 Alum Pistons, High-Flo heads, General Knetics Cam, Edlebrock (sp) Tunnel Ram, 2-Holly 600 Carbs, 'Crush-Box' 4-speed, Dana rear-end with 456 gears. I'm sure I have forgotten a lot of other things

First Car was a 1971 Boat Tail Buick Riviera, affectionately known as the bat mobile in high school. That was about 18 years ago and the car is still out back in my father's extra garage, it even started last summer all 455 cubic inches of Detroit Iron!!! Was a really great car! Still is but could use a little rust recovery.

A 1967 Triumph GT-6. 95 hp 2000cc straight 6 w/twin sidedraft manual choked Zenith Stromberg carbs (still have my Unisyn). Tiny and cramped - under 2000 lbs & about 12 ft in length. Real winged center lock, knock off wire wheels complete w/lead mallet. "Advanced" high performance features like rack & pinion, front disc brakes & radial tires. Plus, a swing axle to add unexpected excitement on rough roads or off camber turns.

But, it was my pride & joy until it died saving my life in a high speed rollover after a blowout (tube tires) in the rain. I learned a lot about cars balancing my limited budget with the Triumph's constant need for mechanical attention. ... and, I've been driving sports cars ever since.

RIP

1967 Triumph Herald convertible purchased while still at school in 1975 for the sum of £40 !!! Lasted me for 12 months before upgrading to an MG Midget at university. (Insurance was much cheaper back then!)

1970 Citroen 2CV, all 450cc 2-cylinder 27HP of it.

Topped 66mph in comfort in about 40sec with wind from behind, but not much over 50 mph in "adverse" conditions. God we loved that car, and I did learn to anticipate on the traffic very well. (Had to really with neither acceleration or crash protection worth mentioning available.

Enjoy, Nol
