Greeting other Porsche drivers...

I try to always flash and sometimes wave but rarely get a reply from 996's and especially Boxsters. Highest response is from 993's or earlier model 911's. I guess the non-flashers are self absorbed,or don't appreciate the fine machinery.

I am in kind of a strange situation. Won't have my car for 5 weeks, and I am driving a rental Audi TT in the meantime. Other Audi TT drivers wave! It feels funny, but I wave back anyway. I keep having to check myself and not wave to 911 drivers ...

This wave/flash thingie has come up several times I usually wave/flash and get some responses and sometimes like others have experienced get the funny look.
Sometimes projects I'm working on get pretty involved and don't look around for fellow p-car drivers or miss them. But it feels good when you get a flash/wave back.

Hey MPM-do more than raise your fingers to a waterpumper coming your way. If Porsche hadn't sold hundreds of thousands of them in the 80's you wouldn't have your cars to drive today, no?
From a distance my 968 can be mistaken for a 993, so I get flashes, followed by horrified looks on the other drivers face when he sees what he flashed!

I used to double flash everyone, but once the Boxster's hit the scene all I got back was strained looks - guess they didn't know the secret handshake. Then on came the 996's and I'd say a new "type" of P-car driver came along with them (read: a lot of 1st timers).
Regional differences seems also seem to apply. when we lived in Jersey (and also PA) P-car double flashing seemed to be the standard. Here in MA, it only seems to apply to air coolers, so I'm ready to respond to all P-cars, but after I reserve the double flash for older 911s, unless the oncoming P-car(regardless of model)flashes first...

Here in So. Oregon there are only a couple other P-cars. Unfortunately my wife seems to get all the attention (Blonde/Polar Silver, etc...) all others are eyes front???? What gives? The funnest thing though is that when we pull into a gas station we are often directed to a specific pump with grins (we cannot pump our own gas back here in the hinterlands, it must take special trraining) and have great conversations with the attendents........maybe that's why I "get" to drive the Expedition so often?
