Default Which Battery

My battery does not want to hold a charge. So time for a new one, are all batteries the same? Is there an OEM battery?

Thanks for the help guys.

I would suggest an Optima dry cell battery. Longer life, no concerns about acid spillage.

I installed an Optima Yellow Top in my car. It is made for a Honda and it is much lighter than the stock unit. It is a bit taller but you can make it fit.

I have a Red Top and it has already drained down 3 times. I haven't checked all the micro switches yet, just unplugged the interior light fuse for now and have it hooked to a Battery Tender. If I could do it again, I would save $50 and just get a SEARS DIEHARD. Make sure you have no excess drain on your battery.

THe most popular battery amongst off-roaders (of which I am one) are the Optimas...trail rigs can go for long periods of time between starts, have high demands (winch, lights, etc) and dependability out in the middle of nowhere are paramount. No spilling, etc. I've never had a problem with mine, and have experienced long lifespans (>5 years)

I hate (not really) to bring up another option, but I have had great success with the DieHard International in 2 Porsches. For what its worth.

Default Red Top

Tom,
I run a red top, model 800U, but that's a larger-footprint unit. Most decent auto parts stores can order in Optimas next-day (they normally don't keep them in inventory) and the optimabattery site can match up dimensions for you. In P-cars, eliminating the possibility of a leak is a huge advantage...

On some dual-battery setups, I've seen lots of yellow and even blue-tops (marine)

Red is great for street applications.

I've been using DieHard for all my cars. I also use the battery mat for any acid gas and check battery one a month. Could be over maintaince, but I also replace the batteries every 3 years, whether necessary or not, just cheap insurance in my mind.

Diehard International and vent it properly. No problems. Way too many complaints here on the Optima's performance IMO. It's only an battery, how much aggravation should it be?

No problems with my Optima. I like the fact that it is sealed and I don't have to worry about vents, leaking acid, battery mats, or water top-ups.

You might be able to find a regular lead-acid battery that will fit and that is also sealed.
