Out of curiosity, how do you know it is 'fried'? Warning lamp? How are the brakes behaving?

To answer your question, the control unit is fitted in the right-hand front side of the luggage compartment with 4 ball pins. These four ball pins also serve to hold the control unit cover in place. A rubber seal is used to provide sealing of the cover. The control units may be identified by the part number and by a self-adhesive sticker with a colored edge.
ABS 5 -Sticker with black edge.
ABS 5 / ABD -Sticker with yellow edge.

Actually,
I believe on UK cars its on the right hand side (if your sitting in the drivers seat) and if a US car and I'm presuming Canada as well, it is located on the proper, err ah left hand side of the vehicle. In other words, the master cyl. abs control unit resides on the side that the driver sits....
Cheers..

The reason I know this is because ABS light is on constantly. Also my speedometer doesn't work until I hit 60mph. When I hit 60mph the needle jumps up and run properly. If I go any slower the speedometer reads 0. All my speed sensors are working.

Has this happened to anyone before?

Anyone have apic of where the unit is located. I think I found where it is. Black cover... on the left front side when facing the car head to head.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Steve:

FWIW,...You will need the Factory scan tool to cycle & bleed the ABS controller.

Also, you need that tool to troubleshoot the thing and ensure that its the problem, not a wheel speed sensor (most common) issue.

Steve Nagata....I replaced both the ABS computer and ABS pump. (Both were damaged in a traffic accident) Together I paid under $250 for both units. I bought them used. Either look at www.car-parts.com or call LA Porsche Dismantlers at (818) 767-7243.

As said, it's not good to "shotgun" a Porsche electrical problem, especially when one
considers the costs of ECUs. Get access to the Porsche Hammer or ST2.

Remember, the speedo signal is an INPUT to the ABS unit.

Ok did what everyone said. Paid the dealer (another one) to conect the hammer to the car. All the spped sensors are fine (All have a signal), THe control unit under the dash is fine. THere is no signal from the ABS control unit in the trunk.

So I guess my guess was a good guess hahaha

Is it hard to replace mself? I don't want to bend any pins.

thanks again

I believe the control unit is plug and play and an easy install. I bought one on eBay for under $70.00 last year.
