Question 993TT in Orange County, CA

I am looking to replace my 95 with a TT. There is an Arena Red tt (96) for sale at Truspeed Motor Cars in Costa Mesa. 17k miles for 78k. Below "dealer" market, as nearby dealers keep asking for 89k or so.

Is anyone from OC familiar with the place or the car? A slight chance, I know. But just in case.

Thanks in advance.

Oh Mark,
I know that's low low miles but I know of 01 TT's (with high miles) for that money... oops, blasphamy!!!

Cheers,
Dylan.

p.s. sorry, don't know them.

Dylan:

You must be talking about the one at South Bay BMW (with a bunch of miles). I'll have to pass.

I did see the yellow one at Casey's. Again, pass. After all, water's made for surfing, not cooling an engine..., right?

Hey Mark,

Give Ruf-Racer (Roland) a call. He has a '96 TT arena red with blk that he's willing to part with. I think it has 30K miles...in the low to mid $70K. Not sure if it's already sold...wouldn't hurt to drop him a line.

Good luck on your search/purchase.

Ha ha yes I am!! You got me. My friend was looking at it just to see how low they would go and the price he got them to was much lower than they are showing on the car (or telling people). But he found a silver one with less miles, Silver on Black, Nav and Carbon interior for only a couple more thousand dollars. Man, those prices still seem high for 993 TT's? My friend is getting his license as we speak and will be buying P cars (only) from Auction (like a lot of Dealers) and then passing them on for only a few extra thousand than what he pays while he goes through law school. Makes for cheaper cars if your interested in the future.

Good Luck,
Dylan.

ditto on the truespeed comments. The guys there
seem nice enough, I just think they are hunting for the guys in So Cal who have the money and not a clue what Porsche is all about.

I have often thought of getting my broker license since I have bought and sold so many cars in the past couple years. More to save on taxes than to save money...the rules have changed in CA though and it's harder to get so I will continue to buy and sell through private transactions.

Dylan,
I will try to get a hold of you later, I can't e-mail from this computer.

Thanks everyone. Interesting opinions. When I saw 78k for 14k miles and in good shape, I was impressed. I have been looking around and haven't found a nice one for less that 75k. 78k for this one seems reasonable, however.

PK: Thanks for the heads up. I will e-mail Roland.

Re: TruSpeed Motorcars

Request to talk to Rob Morgan. His schedule is somewhat erratic as he is out of town participating in the American GT series. He is pretty straight forward. They only deal in high end exotic and collectible cars. We have had current customers looking to upgrade bring cars from TruSpeed for PPI's here. The quality of cars we have seen has been very good.

When Mr. Morgan delivered a 993 Cab to our shop for the first time, I asked him about his company and type of customres. They provide cars to customers all over the states, purchasers looking for that specific car.

We have no affiliation with TruSpeed.

Higher miles but currently lower price, Reserve not met yet... 1997 Porsche 993 Turbo - Two hours to go.

A water duck 2001 with Reserve meet at just over $90K - 2001 996 Twin Turbo - 12K miles.

A NO RESERVE first bid gets it at $41K (not a great color combo though - Porsche C4S Arena Red/Tan Wide-Body - Cheap buy though for a C4S... oh hang on, high miles to go with that color combo

Just some examples for interest. Then of course there is the other end of the spectrum, the 2001 C2's with aero kit starting at $65K, reserve not met.

Keep looking and just haggle big time. The guys with the Turbo rang my friend and have him grief because he "didn't come back to buy the car". They get desperate to move them. Sometimes they only have a couple weeks to try make some money on a car, then it goes to the wholesale boys who pound them on price.

Throw a low ball.

Good Luck.

68K for a 6 year old car is NOT high mileage (I agree in Porsche circles) but 41k is a great price. My '97 just turned 70k and IMO is worth at least 44k. Guess a lot depends on the records, options and PPI results. Arena red is a tough color though...

Jason:
I really like the Arena red, though. That is interesting that you say it is a tough color. With a tan interior, I was in love. I am going to look at a silver one tomorrow (a 97 with 23k miles).

The TruSpeed car is pretty nice. Nose was repainted. Needs a new Slave Cylinder. I am going to do the PPI with Laura next week if all checks out with the test drive. I did not drive it this time, just spend an hour or so on the exterior. They are willing to work on the price.

I actually like the arena red, I am just basing it upon the masses and purely re-sale factor.

Make it silver or black and you will see a lot more activity...

All it takes is one buyer to make a market. Of course I am partial to Arena Red. I searched all over the country for one. Passed on the tan interiors, but black or grey are nice. Wound up with grey.

Good luck.
