Do you have a front license plate on your car?
I found out yesterday, that the state of wisconsin has a law on the books requiring a front plate.A local city police pulled me over and gave me a ticket.

You might try the "track" excuse for not having a license plate. Scuff the plate up a bit (maybe event bend it and/or the bracket a little) and carry it with you in the car. Explain that it was knocked off at a track event a weekend or so ago and that you're going to have it fixed. Hey, it might work... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

California also requires a front license plate, and it's a "fix-it" ticket if you get busted. But... fully 10% of the general car/truck population do not have a front plate, and probably 90% of the Porsches do without. I've been stopped on more than one occassion for this or that, but the lack of the front plate was never mentioned. Bumper plugs.

No front plate --> Bumper Plugs.
When I bought the car the dealer handed me the front bracket and suggested I don't install it. If I'm stopped just explain that it is on back order and I'm waiting for the bracket.
I've had to use this once. The cop gave me a hard time and explained that the 2nd plate is required because if I only had one it could have been stolen. I pulled the second one out from under the passenger floor mats and pushed on him a little (not physically). He backed down and didn't give me a ticket.
Kinda pisses me off - I'm getting harassed and almost ticketed for not displaying my second plate while someone is killing or raping someone probably no more than a block or two away. Sorry, I had to get on my <img border="0" alt="[soapbox]" title="" src="graemlins/soapbox.gif" />

In MD, we're required to have a front plate but I don't have it on. I, too, have had the "front bracket on back order" excuse at the ready.
Skip - good reason to have the tag in the car. I hadn't thought of that.

no front required (or provided) in Alberta, Canada, where the car is registered and insured. Although, the cop in LA didn't look like he believed me!! max

Bumperplugs.
A few months ago, I got pulled over by "Hermosa's Finest" for speeding. After getting my license, etc, and going back to his bike, he came up to me and said, "You have a choice, 'No front plate' ticket or speeding ticket." I chose the "No front plate" ticket. He smiled and said, "Wise choice".
Given the fact I was extremely nice and respectful, he was just as nice back. I am going to leave the plate off just in case I have any future violations. It gives them an out. Worst case? $10 fine.

Back in high school I got a fix it ticket for window tint. Since my sis had the same car without tint I switched license plates w/ her car and took her car down to the PD to get it written off. Saved me a $200 tint job at the time.

You guys in "required front license plate states" are killing me with your stories of how you're NOT using a front plate! I hate the look of the front plate on my car (Maryland car) but have been nervous to attract unwanted attention with cops by not having one. The thought of getting pulled over and having to lie about why it isn't on there "Yes Officer, why, it simply came off during a track event... eh urh, no, actually, I have the plate right here in the back seat under the floor mat. You see, it came off when I curbed the car and I'm awaiting a bracket from the dealership to put it back on. Oh, you want to see my repair order for the part? What, you're giving me a $100 ticket because I can't produce one and you think I'm a big fat liar? Why officer... I have to blame it all on my fellow liars over at Rennlist . Yeah, you see, they used this same lame excuse and THEY didn't get a ticket <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" /> "
I shouldn't worry so much as my wife's Jag XK8 looks awful with the front tag on, so we leave the tag in the trunk and have never put it on the car. She's driven it for 1.5 years now and has never been pulled over. I told her to lie and say that the part is on order <img border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" title="" src="graemlins/drink.gif" /> .
So why can't I just lie too? I'm not sure about this. If I decide to scam the system like you guys, do I just call the "bumper plug" guy and order me up some plugs in Polar Silver once I $hitcan the Md tag? Then there's the question of how do I hook up my K40 Radar system again as the whole front license plate tag holder is the K40 radar system. Hell, I don't even know how to use the K40 detector so not having it may not be too much of a problem. I just thought that once I figured out how it worked, it would be nice to be able to use it! It's built into the car using the front tag holder.

Bumper Plugs on the bumper. License plate kept in the trunk. So far haven't been pulled over. But, if I do, I'll "badge um." <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
