Post Stainless Steel Wool

Time to calm down the supercups mufflers... the neighbors are pissed off...I read someone has recently mentioned that the stainless steel wool could be used to pack the inserts.
After i wrapped the inserts today the sound is definitely quieter now.. But this wool for sure accumulates a lot of heat inside of the mufflers...which as we all know are just below the motor. First thing that comes to mind is the safety...Is it safe to "carry" a such high temperature mufflers at the back of the car?
How this extra heat(if it does) may effect the engine.
Has anyone been using the stainless steel wool to dump the noise for extended period of time ? Any "side effects"?
Thanks in advance!

I tried wrapping stainless steel wool around the Fabspeed incerts, wiring it in place, to meet track sound restrictions. The stainless burned and blew out the exhaust pretty quickly.

I better check my wrap. I used a pretty corse gauge wool, checked it after about a 100 miles and it looked ok (singed but not burnt).

If stainless steel wool burns off relatively quickly after repacking, then what kind of steel wool does fabspeed originally pack the Supercups with?? Is the trick to pack it really tight so that there is littel air between the strands so burning is minimized??

I've just removed the inserts to take a look how 50 miles of driving changed the steel wool (I got it at home depot...coarse # 3). The wool changed the color from original gray to kinda brown..sometimes even green. But the property of steel wasn't effected...by other words..it didn't turned to the dust.
I doubled the amount of steel wool and put the inserts back into the mufflers. It took some efforts to put it back..because it is now really tight. The noise level now seems to be even lower...and as I suggest it is now even hotter in there...

What exactly did the neighbours say? Seems strange that they would complain about the car unless you are leaving very early in the morning or coming home late (like 1am) at night.

The baffles on my SuperCups need to be repacked and I can tell you they are VERY LOUD...even when idling or coasting at 2000 RPM. They are even louder than either of the Ducks and louder than the GPz750 with the the Bassani exhaust that I had as a teenager!
