Post It's been a long time since I wanted to kill someone,

but I was close today. Parked on the 5th floor of a public, multi story garage. Did everything "right" - far from the elevators, far away from any other cars, & an end spot a few inches from a wall on the passenger's side.

A few hours later I returned to find a 20" long, down to the base coat, jagged "keyed" gash in my driver's door. I guess some low life wanted to teach whoever owned that fancy car that nothing left unattended is safe.

I also guess I should be happy about 2 things:
1. It's "only" 1 body panel.
2. I didn't catch the a**hole, so I'm not facing a homicide charge.

I know it's a bit OT, but had to vent <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" />

Sorry to hear the bad news.

Have you checked to see if the garage has camera's?

Never know, you might get lucky.

It's hard to understand why some people are like that. When I had my old Acura, someone walked all the way around it with a key while it was parked on the street in front of the church office. The only panel they missed way the roof. And it wasn't even a new or especially nice car! At least I got a new paint job out of it.

Hope yours isn't to difficult to fix. Better to just accept that there are some really unhappy people out there and move on.

Jealousy is a sad thing <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" /> ...
That absolutely and totally sucks.
Just had the same thing done on my 95 BMW 740i 6 months ago. I had it 4 years and nothing, and all of a sudden one day I come back to my car to find the whole side was keyed on all 3 body panels. Major repaint on the side, but they blended it beautifully. Insurance paid all but $100 of the repaint. Made me realize my car is NOT an investment. Too bad we don't live in a bubble, where no one can f**k with our $hit!

Glad to hear you're not in a holding cell in your county jail. Be glad you didn't catch that little f**khead! He'd be "dead" and you'd be waiting on death row.

Dan, the world is full of a$$holes. That is one of the reasons I am so paranoid whenever I park the 993. Good luck with the repairs.

Dan,

I can sympathize with you--the top on my 993 convertible was cut last summer after spending quite a bit of money, getting the car to look like new. You just have to drive the car and enjoy it, even though there are jerks in the world. I'm now driving a 996 and even though it's not a convertible, I am still conscious of it when I park.

Sorry to hear that, Dan. Hopefully, what goes around comes around, in one way or another.

Some day, some how...what comes around, goes around....

Dan, very sorry to hear this...

Back in 1989, I bought my first brand new car (truck). Its was a 1989 Chevy S-10. I was so proud of it, washed it frequently. The first weel I had it, my girlfriend at the time took it to the movies and parked it WAY out in left field, only to return to the drivers side door keyed. She was heart broken as was I. I thought to myself, why would anyone do this, and why would anyone do this to a 'truck'?

Sorry to hear about your misfortune Dan.
The waste of space that did this will probably never have the pleasure of the finer things in life and if he/she does they will hopefully get what's coming to them. What goes around comes around.
Why can't people just get on with their own lives instead of messing up others.

Dan,

So sorry to hear this. A similar thing happened to my car about 6 years ago, while parked at an old girlfriend's apartment complex. About a 20" long scratch along the right rear fender. Took the car to a detailer, who made little progress at getting rid of the scratch. A short while later, I took the car to the dealer to have a rust bubble at the windshield base fixed under warranty. I'll be damned if their body shop didn't get rid of the scratch completely, no painting required.

Anyway, sounds like your scratch may be too deep to remove without painting? Maybe you'll get lucky, like I did?

I think the most intense vicarious experience of my life was watching that American kid get caned for vandalizing cars in Singapore. Man, how I would love an opportunity to cane one of the worthless sh*ts who over the years have ripped off my stereo, broken out my windows, hit my car then ran, etc., etc.

Dan, that is an ugly tale. I am lucky I didn't witness that. Make the appointment and get it fixed.

On a lighter note I bought a brand new Torreador Red F150 pick-up a few years back. The first day I had it home I went outside and saw that someone had taken and deeply scratched the rear quarter panel on one side. When quizzed, my then child No. 3 three year-old boy confessed to drawing on the side of my truck. There were less than 50 km/30 miles on the odometer. Two years later I was t-boned in an intersection, the frame was bent and the whole side of the truck was replaced. I just rid myself of that cursed beast on Monday.

Scratches we can get fixed.

Anyone ever caught one of those bastards? Let's hear the stories!

Horror story.
And like all horror stories, the real horror of it is the feeling of dread that it could happen to anyone (especially me!)
