This frustrates me beyond belief. I would file a complaint with whatever law agency this sheriff said he works for and tell the most senior guy there that you were threatened. See if the police station recieved a complaint or if this officer called you with no report filed. There are laws against these kinds of actions to keep the law in check. This officer might tell his friend to pay up. Otherwise, let the officer know that the buyer of his wheels slept with his best friend (being his wife).

If you give up on this, transfer the project to me and I will not want a collection fee.
