Default Help in Timing my 993

I need help setting the valve timing in 993

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was wondering if someone could help me. I am trying to set the timing in my 993. I have an early production 993 so I have the old style sprocket with pin. I am trying to use the dial guage but my hydrolic lifters make it impossible. I tried using a hand modified lifter and that helps somewhat but how do I know I'm right on and what is 0 clearence. If someone could shed some light here I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi:

Temporarily install a 964 rocker arm assembly on the #1 intake valve and that faciliates setting the valve timing accurately.

I have extra hydroulic lifters available, can I convert one to a 964 style somehow?

You only have a few options that will work over the long run. If you change your rockers out to the mechanical style you will need to regrind your camshafts or purchase new cams. You can't install mechanicals on hydraulic cams without accelerated wear..

Unless you have the cam timing specs for the 993 engine. You won't be able to set it up, you need to buy the factory setup tools or rent them from a shop..

I have a set, and have re-couped the cost buy renting them out. Find a local shop in your town and ask them.. Walk in with cash in hand, you might have to give them either the cost of the tools up front, or collateral if you walk off with them.. By the way, the tools consist of 2ea cam lock down tools and a intermediate shaft/crank lock tool, and chain housing/chain tension tool...

Would you consider renting them to me? I would greatly appreciate it.
