Tire rack on back order for Victoracers...where else do people like?

Also, for standard 17" rims, what is the largest tire I can fit in a 993?

Jos, I fit 225 and 275 Kumho's on my 7 & 9" cup wheels without issue.

Tom, no issue with the overall diameters being off an inch?

Jos, It's been a while since I had them, but TireRack says the 225/45 is 24.8" and the 275/40 is 25.5" which is a 2.7% difference. This difference is acceptable (I believe 6% is max before ABS problems). I ran the ECSTA V700 version for autox. I now run MPSC in the standard 205/255 sizes (but Michelin's are much wider that others) and don't worry as much about how much rubber is in the contact patch. At my skill level, it's not a major factor in lap times. I also don't worry about 205 vs 225 up front to try and reduce understeer as I have adjustable sway bars that accomplish the task better than trying to squeeze more rubber on a narrow rim (225's on a 7" rim).

JPS,

I've found that some of the chain stores who already deal in Kumhos can get Victoracers w/o problem, and will come close to TireRack's prices, especially considering that you won't be paying shipping costs. Give them a try.
I've run 225/275 on 7/9 rims w/o issue...great combo, IMHO!

are kumhos accepted as being ok in the states?

over here in the uk they seem to be frowned upon.

my car has a full set and must admit quite pleased with them

Kumhos seem to be weapon of choice for DE crowd, until graduate to Hoosiers.

So much so they are pretty much sold out...

Jos, Most folk I talk to (myself included) like MPSC better than Kumhos. Second best would be Toyo RA-1's (as a DOT-R tire).

Ah yes, but then there is the $$ with MPSC. And Toyo's don't have a 225, only 205 & 235, the latter of which don't seem to fit on a 7" rim.

JPS has it exactly right. The $$ premium with MPSC doesn't necessarily equate, even with its (slightly) longer life, though everyone says the MPSC are a faster tire. And I've heard that the RA1s are excellent and fall in between in price, but don't come in a 225x17. Kumho Victoracers are superb bang-for-buck tires that work well ...for this weekend hack, anyway.
