There were all the talks about the Mobil 1 0W40 weight oil recently on this board. So I was at the dealer parts department recently and asked the guys behind the counter if they stock the 0W40 weight oil and to my surprise they replied "YES". And when I asked them how much for a quart they said $6.26. Since there were several people standing around the parts counter waiting for me to finish and I was too embarrassed to acknowledge that it was too expensive I ended up going home with 12 quarts of that stuff.
So I changed the oil in my 993 this weekend to the 0W40 stuff.
My car only felt marginally smoother, (could be because of the new oil) but the engine doesn't feel as "heavy" when it is cold. Once warmed up it feels the same as before.
I guess for the benefit of a smoother running engine during the winter morning I will use this stuff in the mean time.

Robin,
The 0-40W Mobil you bought looks different from the ones we get here in Singapore. Ours are packed in a golden bottle and it's tri-synthetic. Wonder if it's just the packaging for different markets?
Regards
Gerald

If you look carefully in the picture you will see the "tri-synthetic" lettering on the box too.
I am guessing the golden bottle used for Singapore maybe a Asian market tactic, as Asians think gold is a good luck color.

If that was the case, then they should have renamed Mobil 1 to Mobil 888.

I recently changed to 0W40 Mobil 1. Purchased from my local Porsche dealer in Chicagoland for $5.00 qt. The MB dealer also sells 0W40 for about the same price.
After the change, I think the engine gets up to operating temp sooner.

Robin et al,
For what it's worth, I did an event recently with a guy who was in marketing for Mobil 1 (with an engineering background).
He said we should always use the lightest M-1 approved for the engine.
Basically, the engine doesn't have to work as hard to pump it, but still has all the protection.
Rich, just curious, which dealer, and did you ask for the PCA discount?
Thanks
Mike

Warning: New owner dumb questions.... ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Which oil should I be using?
I don't race my car.
I drive it daily.
I live in the Seatle area which varies in temperature from about 30 - 55 degrees in the winter.
I have a 97 993TT.
Thanks,
Tim

Hi Robin,
I just went to a local dealer here and bought the 0W40 oil. They charged me $6.95/quart.
I didn't know that they have different price on different dealer

The local iceheads tell me Mobil 1 ,0W-40 can had at any Polaris dealer as they have a time line based agreement with Mobil. Polaris is using this in all of their new 4 stroke based toys . Mite be less expensive ?
