Post Suggestions for reading material...

Although I have a fairly good idea what happens when each of the three pedals are depressed, I am looking to expand my knowlege base...can anybody suggest reading materials which might go into engine component design, fluid and thermo-dynamics, suspension forces and geometry, and the like...thanks

I would recommend Going Faster if you want more info on the physics of your car ( suspension, friction, etc. ) It's mostly focused on driving, but they have some really detailed sections with great graphs.

Here's a link to the book on Amazon here. Best $20 investment for going faster!

Lonn:

I have a book titled "Tune To Win" (would have underlined that if I knew how) by Carroll Smith. It is very technical (for me anyway). The book has great sections on suspensions, tires other racing related technical subjects. I think it may even touch on aerodynamics, but I don't remember. I used to use it to fine-tune my adjustable suspension (on my first racecar) at the track.

I do recommend the book for any car-guy.

I second the recommendation for "Going
Faster". No question. Buy it.

While not specifically about Porsche, I
would also recommend "How to Make Your
Car Handle" by Fred Puhn.

Also, check out "The Physics of Racing"
by Brian Beckman. Its available many
places on the web - here is one: http://autopedia.com/stuttgart-west/...PhysicsPS.html

Lonn,

I can recommend "Speed Secrets: Professional Race Driving Techniques" by Ross Bentley. It isn't quite as technical as some of the other suggestions, but is a good place to start - balanced discussion of both driver and machine (albeit less about engine/fluids than suspension/tires). Good luck!

Try "race car vehicle dynamics". It is a SAE book. I think over 600 pages. Its a little pricey (about $80), but will tell you EVERYTHING you wanted to know about vehicle dynamics! I think the author's last name is Milliken?

Maybe SAE (society of automotive engineering) has a website.

Just a thought,

Chris

The web site is www.sae.org and the book is for sale for $89.00. I couldn't resist. Thanks for the pointer. Can't wait to start reading it!
