love my turbo, but miss a soft top, would it
be crazy to get a ...... sorry, 289 cobra in its place?
dont think a regular 993 cab would do it any more after the turbo's power, and i like the widbody look
89 speedsters ok, but i am tall and i think they would be to windy i think
and they just dont have the look or drive of a 993
89 turbo cab has a top i dont like the looks of up, and lag
not sure if i am ready to do a 996 turbo cab (but my favorite 996) or want to wait for a 997 turbo cab
M3 cabs to regular looking for me
the good benz's dont have sticks
rag top muscle cars tend to have flexy frames and poor handling
any good ideas?

There are always the tuners like RUF or Gemballa who can properly transform a cabrio to a TT monster.
It all depends on your budget really and how much you want to stay with a 993.

I think you should have both -just kidding.
The Cobra is a brute and it's definitely not a comfortable or practical car. Similar to a Viper, I believe the car is outright dangerous and completely unpredictable unless driven in a straight line. My butt can take about 1.0 - 1.5 hours worth of driving at any one time - that's it! I have been thinking about a good kit Cobra for a while (the one in the puicture is not mine or an original, it is a Superperformance with a 427 engine). Drive one and you will see.

you are not seriously thinking of selling that TT after all the work (time?), and all of the opinions from rennlisters ???!!!
You could get a 993cab and supercharge it for not too much as people here have done
You get get a 993cab and goto Ruf in Vancouver (weissach) and let them turbo it (expensive)
Or, you could just open your sunroof, open the windows and enjoy your beautiful TT.... as my friends tell me "dont be neurotic, just shutup, sitdown and drive your car" - no offense
I vote for the later.
btw, i owe you a call .. sorry.
best,

Well how about that... I happen to have a replica of a 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra (which I love but just not too practical anymore) up for sale along with my excellent 1986 Porsche 944! I'm looking to get into a good 993... how ironic!

I would think a new convertible C6 Corvette would fit the bill pretty well. Don't dismiss muscle cars too easily... my buddy has an 03 Mustang Cobra convertible and even though its a really old platform, it sticks and rides very well. And it flat hauls ***.

good answers, but..........
dont want a narrow body 993 cab (spoiled by the wide body look) and to slow now after a turbo, to convert a convert would be to costly relative to what car would be worth when sold.
i dont mind a higher initial cost, but dont like that big hit if/when sell.
C6 might be nice, but would have to see and drive one, plus again, the big depreciation hit goes against my grain. would have to wait a few years.
deprecation is also one of my concerns w/the the 996 TT cab. along w/getting use to its looks also.
usa muscle cars to crude and flexy, and modern usa muscle ish cars not much better, had a SVT cobra mustang cab and it was a flexy flyer
keep thinking please..........

I sold my 993tt and bought a 98 993 Cab. Although I like the cab, I do miss the power and the wide bodied look. If you come up with an answer, I would listen. You can find widebody 993 Cabs, the are a few out there, not factory. They still don't have the power and the feel of a tt.
I thought about the new C-6, but just can't get past the gold chain image. Sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone.

ken-
get a 993cab, and make it into a widebody - should not be crazy $$.. just replace the rear quarter panels and rear bumper. - you can even add "s" panels with the hole . then supercharge the car for similar power. As you are not tracking the car, the supercharged cab would be even more fun on the street as 2-wd, no lag, etc. Supercharger is under 8k installed (free!!). Or perhaps you can find someone that is selling a car like this and get the benefit of his work.
I dont know what your holding period is, but even the amount of time you spent wet sanding that TT, i think you should be prepared to hold on to this for a while, in that case, you should not be as depreciation sensitive.
best of luck , but you know my real opinion ... shut up and drive the TT

ok, there is something about me that doesnt like the top set-up on the 993 cab no matter if it was a wide body turbo or not. having to snap a boot on is just not right, and you look funny driving around w/it off

mb sl55 amg ?? nice roof operation.
any older car is not going to have seemless roof open/close the way all post 2000 cars have.
so, you are looking at a reduced amount of 'fun' cars b/c newer cars have the 996 issues as they are not as fun or drive like real sports cars.
get a F355 spyder? .. more open .. thats all i got ..
