rennlisters,
i thought i'd give everyone here a shot at my roll bar prior to putting it on ebay. i am selling my roll bar, which is in excellent condition. I bought it from FVD. You can see it on their website (click here)
The model # is: Mod. 993 Cabrio CS 94-98 Alu HEI 516 046 A
They charge $890 for this roll bar + shipping.
I will sell my bar for 1/2 price to a rennlist member at $445 + shipping. I'd prefer a local person here in the SF Bay Area. It will fit a '95='98 993 cab.
Pros of my roll bar:
================
+ NO DRILLING REQ'D. bolts into factory locations.
+ Installs in < 30 mins
+ Excellent design, Excellent Quality (great welds)
+ Only weighs 12lbs since it is made from Aluminum
+ I was told by FVD that it is FIA certified, although i have no docs to prove it.
Negatives of my roll bar:
=================
- It does not meet PCA club racing rules as they do NOT accept aluminum
- It has no diagnol support structure, although one can be purchased from Heigo in Germany (or perhaps from FVD). There website does list the option.
Why am i selling... I needed a roll bar that meets PCA rules & regs.
Cheers,
Boris

DE events worked fine even with PCA. Several of the local clubs ... NCRC, Tracquest, Unlimited laps ... all were fine with it. Only PCA and SCCA and NASA are not.
Jauder, i already got a new roll bar. I got a DAS bar (i hate drilling holes in my car but oh well). It just came back from the body shop - it is now speed yellow. Will post pics soon.
Cheers,
Boris

POC would not be fine with that bar either, though there are no real requirements in TracQuest or PCA to have to have a roll bar for DE events so they really would not care what you have for a roll bar or not.

Kary,
I ran the POC DE with my roll bar and verified it was ok. It is certainly NOT ok with POC for club races. You are correct that most clubs have historically not required roll bars. However, in recent years that has changed. I believe it is not a function of the club but rather the tracks. I know for the tracks around here (laguna, sears pt, thunderhill) they all require that any open car have a roll bar or factory pop-up protection. They do not specify any requirements for the roll bar itself, just that the car has one.
Hope that makes sense. Unfortunately i've become quite an expert at what clubs require and why.
Cheers,
Boris

POC TT and Club Race is very specific about roll bar (DAS is the minimum). Martin can chime in here as he was instrumental in getting the rules to allow the DAS bar. Not sure why they allowed your bar since it has no cross member and is aluminum, but last year it was not allowed in POC.

kary they only allowed it in DE. That was the first time that POC had a DE (at least my understanding). In addition, no suit, gloves... was required.
hope that makes sense.
