Unhappy 993 Ducktail, you want one?

I hate to post this here but, well... I need to! I know this isn't the Classifieds but I figure you guys have been part of the dicussions so why not offer it up here first. I was one of the first 5 to purchase the old look ducktail for the 993, actually it turned up last night, I had forgotten about it. BUT, an old injury is forcing me to try to recover some money. I need to gather together as soon as possible US$20K to fly to Australia for Artificial Cervical Disk replacement surgery. Just in brief, I can still do things, I'll be racing over the weekend but I can't do anything too physical with good days and bad days. Hell, I wake up regularly during the night with both arms going numb! But hey, that is life! For this reason I am going to part with the Ducktail wing that I purchased for what I paid for it. Here it is for first dibs before I put it in the Classifieds.

The original post is here.

The wing cost me $375 with grill (shipping was extra at $40). If anyone wants it for that money plus shipping to them, it's yours. I know $375 is a small step, but the wing does still need paint so that would be more outlay for me. It does have the mounting holes with steel thread by the look of it? Here's some info provided to us;

The ducktail is being manufactured by Rennspeed Motorsport, proprietor Peter. Rennspeed specializes in custom fiberglass and carbon body parts for Porsches. I have dealt with Peter before and I have had a very good experience.
Product Details:
The ducktail will be constructed out of fiberglass. It will be based on the shape of the 993 tail plan, but it will have the classic ’73 ducktail spoiler grafted onto it. It will bolt onto your existing hinges. Originally we wanted to use the existing 993 grill section to reduce the cost but Peter reported that it was a poor choice because the size and shape did not look right. So instead we will be required to use a grill from an SC or Carrera (not supplied). This is a black plastic molded one piece grill that is available used for $50 to $100 including the mounting bolts. Peter says he has a few available that he will sell with the ducktail to interested parties for $75 subject to availability. By the way the Japanese 993 ducktail project also uses the SC/Carrera grill. You will be able to use your existing latch mechanism and deck lid shock however Peter recommends not using a shock because of the extra pressure the compressed shock puts against the plastic part. I plan to adapt some kind of rod to hold up the ducktail. The tail will have threaded areas for the hinge bolts.
Fitting:
This is a raw fiberglass part and it will require some fitting and finishing. You will probably have to take it to a body shop to have the finishing done as there is always some pinhole filling, minor shaping, sanding, priming and painting that has to be done. Plus the holes for the grill are left undrilled to allow precise positioning and alignment. Peter promises an excellent product but please be aware that there is some work to do once you receive it. Since we are not using the 993 grill you will be able to unbolt your entire existing deck lid and put in on a shelf in case you ever want to switch back. Also, you will need to disable the moving tail warning light. A DIY procedure is listed on http://www.p-car.com.

I also have a set of H&R sport springs (<2K miles) with original struts (25K miles) if someone wants to make an offer.

By the way, no, Insurance haven't paid for the surgery, not for over 5 years. Things are going downhill too fast to wait for them so I'm trying to come up with the money myself.

Thanks for putting up with a classified ad here.

Heads up, keep it smilin'
Dylan.

Dylan,

Sorry to hear about your injury.

I'm just posting because mine (ducktail) arrived also yesterday and I can confirm that it's pretty nice piece, little rough (as those fiberglass pieces usually are) but otherwise ok (haven't tested it in place yet). And I think you're also correct about the threads.
And it's quite lightweight!

Good Luck!

I only looked at mine quickly under the kitchen lights and I was surprised how smooth it was? There was I think, one small section requiring pin holes be filled but otherwise, it looked almost like it had a coat of black paint on it? It was very smooth. I would think paint would have almost gone straight over the top? And yes, very light, perhaps I should sell the SuperCup wing and keep this?

Cheers,
Dylan.

Hey Dylan!
This is almost totally non-related to Porsche
Stuff.
I had a three level cervical diskectomy with
titanium plates an non-ferous screws three months
ago. I was just recovering from Achilles tendon
surgery when the arm thing went out. You know.
Hang in there!!!
It will get better!!

Yep, it is pretty good. I think it's painted black, but needs attention though.

I'd like to put it in my car and see how it looks (before painting) but I have a trip to take so it'll have to wait few weeks...
