Default Got my car back! Re-gearing done!

picked up my car today! Quick resumè:
- very short gears from Steve W.
- Light weight flywheel
- Camshaft timing accurately measured

(and some minor points like Turbo S ducts, and red seat belts, had my brake calipers re-.)

The car is now a real mean machine! It runs like a scalded cat! It revs up instantly. The short gearing combined with the LWF and camshaft timing correction makes the car phenomenally fast in acceleration. Even better than my RS project car! The car is transformed. It runs like a motorcycle. Uphill the car just flies... Very torquey. Very linear progression. Power starting from the low rev range is never lacking. The car absolutely snarls at full acceleration.

The car was already good before the transformation, but now it is impressive.

Steve W's gear ratios guarantee no hole in performance. Rev up and zoom! Instant linear power!

Of course, at low revs, the LWF clatters, but I like it. Part of the Flat 6 classical symphony.

The racing gears being new, will whistle slightly for awhile. Couldn't care less...

Sounds great! I will most likely travel down the lwf/rs clutch route soon as well. Did you dyno the car before and after the cam timing adjustment?

Adrienne:

Just a quick note here,....the choice of gear ratios varies widely and Phil received a gearstack commensurate with what he wanted and the local driving conditions.

There are LOTS of gear ratios available to achieve whatever YOU want, as well....

Phil used the factory RS LWF kit as thats the only streetable option there is. One can add a GT-2 clutch kit for greater torque capacity.

Seriously, i would love to meet you and see the car next time I'm in CH.

No, I didn't. Considered it, but it's only paper figures. The proof is in the actual driving feel...

Can't really tell you yet how much I will be charged for the labor. (I posted the cost of the components on another thread). It took them a longer because they had never done this type of a mod for a G64 transmission before. But they told me they will not charge all the time spent, because they gained a lot of experience and considered it training for their mechanic!

BTW: It feels like I have at least 50 hp more.... And thanks to the camshaft timing correction which I needed the reaction time is explosive...

Thanks Chris. No, I had not doubts because I had done a G50/20 to G50/21 conversion on my previous car and was already impressed then. This conversion is doubly good...
