Schmitt Motorcars Strikes Again

I wouldn't get upset about Reid Vann's 1 BBB complaint during the 3 yr reporting period, even if it's closed as disputed. I think you misread the BBB website date - it's the date of your inquiry (i.e., today).
BTW, will you be at the PCA DE this weekend at GIR?

I looked them up and there was a "date of report" at the bottom. Then I looked up three more companies and realized I made an error. I was just really surprised because I don't see how anyone could be unsatisfied with the service received there. They are definitely the most honest shop in town.
Unfortunately I will not be attending the DE. I really wanted to attend this year, but my car is in sort of bad shape right now and won't be fixed until the summer (I'm very busy with school right now). Once again, sorry about that misleading reply.

This thread can't help but remind of the sage advice: "It's better to remain quiet and let people assume you a fool, then open your mouth and remove all doubt."
Clearly Mr. Schmidt did not follow this advice by claiming his innocence. Although, I've also heard it said "There is no such thing as bad publicity." Perhaps Mr. Schmidt subscribes to this philosophy.

John B -
You have a gorgeous car! Did schmit give you back your $1000 deposit? That is my question. Since they backed out of the deal, they should have reimbursed you immediately. I used to be customer service, and whenever we couldn't fill a customer's order, or a typo, we gave the money back immediately, no question, but an apology, and usually a coupon for future purchase/ service.
Good luck! Wish I had the moola to buy your baby!

In answer to Devia: I got a credit card credit memo for Schmitt at the time of my visit. I am happy to report that today (Weds AM) that credit finally showed up on the CC company's website. I am still waiting to see if they (Schmitt) reconsiders my refund.

Not to beat a dead dog(pardon the pun) I just thought some of the parties involved here would like to know this has thread has spilled into the 996 forum. I think this proves that the web is around allot longer then the situation. A fellow lister was/is looking for a C4S he is from Canada, and thought about looking at a car..I am 100% sure that the car this dealer has in no longer a a valid option.John B what ever happened were you fully reimbursed and/or compensated?

Thank you all for your stories, here's my happy tale with Daniel Schmitt:
I found a car at Daniel Schmitt. Gave a $2000 deposit, signed a letter of intent, and the morning the car was to be picked up to be taken for a PPI, they called me on the phone and told me they sold the car to another buyer!!!
I got my deposit back but something was very fishy. This car looked great!! I had the local PCA chapter pres recommend the a mechanic for the PPI. I spoke with the mechanic and set everything up, PPI, Compression, Leakdown...
Daniel Schmitt fought me the entire way. They did not like the garage I had arranged, and wanted me to take it to another place. I told them that i am not from St Louis, and i trust the PCA's recomendation, they were unhappy. They refused to bring the car for the PPI, too busy, and refused to have the mechanic pick it up. the mechanic actually offered a loaner car so that whoever brought the car in could return to work for the day!! again they refused. I agreed to pay the $150 for a flatbed, and then the morning the truck was coming to bring her to the test, i got the call that they car sold to another buyer. I had agreed to pay full price, and never haggled, as long as the PPI was to my liking.
I am sure that this beautiful car that i wanted would not have passed the tests. I guess i'm lucky in a way, but i realized that Classic Car dealers, are still only sleezy used car salesmen...

I wouldn't go so far and say Classic car dealers are "sleazy used car salesman" that would be lumping Truspeed, Wilhoit, Premier,RPM, Holt and a bunch more of the classic car dealers we all use in that statement. Your mad and I would leave it at that.

I was always impressed by Schmidtt's online inventory. When I'm on layovers, I usually will go and see dealers who have lots of old Porsche cars. Heck, it's how I wound up buying my car in San Fransisco. I went to see this dealer in St. Louis last time through and was unimpressed. They have lots of really cool cars, but most are in pretty poor shape. Most of the inventory was out back and filthy. I got the impression that had I called first about a car, it would have been brought up and sent through detail prior to my arrival. I'll not waste my time going there again...my .02
