You do have to give Schmitt some credit for even coming here - they must know this is likely going to be a no win situation for them. The article posted above makes it pretty clear that Schmitt has used tactics in the past, that although may be legal, are not necessarily honorable.

And we really should not suppress anyone's right to post an opinion here. This board has ganged up on people in the past and it becomes a feeding frenzy. If nothing else, perhaps by posting reasoned opinions here as to how we would like to be treated in purchasing a high-end used car, a dealer like Schmitt may take some actions to better address the community the want as their customers.

Relax GTR 993...this is 'exactly' why I suggested you not attach youself to a sinking ship. I am sure your blood pressue is up a bit right now. This is not worth it...

Take a few breathes and calm down...this is not a big deal....stand by your decision to support and brush off any negative comments you may receive as a result. On the flip side, charish any positive comments...

Enjoy life, drive your car, speak freely...!

By the way, who will black ball you? I have seen the best Posters get into some heated discussions, only to gain more respect by the Rennlist community.

Ciao

Actually, we have 2 local Porsche dealers:

Parktown Porsche+Audi
1 BBB complaint = resolved.

Plaza Motor Co. (Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Infiniti, Land Rover, Lexus, MB, & Porsche) - w/a unit volume that's probably 10x greater than Schmitt
24 BBB complaints - 10 resolved (42%); 14 - closed as disputed.

Compared to Schmitt
36 BBB complaints - 9 resolved (25%); 27 - closed as disputed.

So, your point is?

ZCAT3 makes some good points that I can appreciate. We have had some complaints but they were all quite some time ago. We have been on Ebay for a couple of years and since then really re-directed our attention to customer satisfaction. I was not here a couple of years ago. We have grown considerably and can handle any constructive criticism. Again, the bottom line is that a customer tried to take advantage of us. Not, the other way around.

GTR 993,

You are entitled to express your opinion.

I hope Schmitt recognizes your loyalty and bravery and gives you a great deal (instead of the works) on your next car.

Think about this, a good dealer can have an unhappy customer, and a bad dealer can have a happy customer.

It's the law of averages.

Caveat Emptor!

Get the "Schmitt" out of here!

GTR 993, I am glad you had a good experience. However, in my business, one dissatisfied customer is one too many.

How can you explain the majority of the strictly Porsche dealerships have zero or one complaints?. Maybe you should bite the bullit and pay for some customer service/ethics training?.

I imagine, if you would of returned the deposits and made an effort to satisfy the customer, you would have better business rating, higher sales and a better reputation.

But hey?, I don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm just a poor 928 owner.

Carschmidt.com, you were REALLY close with your last post. Yes all the written evidence is from a couple of years ago (BBB reports, ebay feedback, newpaper articles). You could be trying harder over the past couple of years to rebuild your reputation and you could have just ended it there. But you had to get in the last word over your customer. Bad move.

So being a long time St. Louis resident, how is Daniel Schmidt related to the previous Charles Schmidt car dealership? Father / Son?? Then it would all make sense.... Does anyone remember the high end dealership on I think Kingshighway down south?

They already had a BBB report on them. I think I still have the BBB newsletter on it actually. Plus, I knew someone that worked for them...I live 10 minutes from them if anyone wants me to look at something for them.

I don't know how this has become me taking advantage. I took a couple of photos of my car this PM. Remember it is still dirty from a 100+ mile trip partially in the rain.

Hope this link works, I've never done this before:

Dan,

Thank you for posting the BBB complaint tally for competing dealerships. Objective data that says it all.

John B, I believe you should increase the tally for Schmitt from 36 to 37.

GTR, I absolutely support your right to comment on your positive experience, and commend you for doing so. However, this dealership obviously suffers from ethical and customer service issues.

I'm very impressed with the grassroots "people power" of Rennlist. All the lawsuits in the world are unlikely to impact Schmitt's future practices as much as the negative press they are receiving on this widely viewed message board.

I always worry about dealerships that brag about their sales numbers, as if it's the surest sign of successful business practices. It makes me wonder if they've lost the ability to view themselves from a customer's perspective.

In my practice of medicine, I always remind myself and my staff that an individual patient will only remember the details of his or her visit. If it's a bad one, it won't matter to that patient whether we gave the best care in the world to all the other patients that day. You have to treat every patient / customer as if your reputation and business success depends on it, because it does.
