Question Ramps: Anyone know who makes some?

Does any company make ramps that are about 12" wide that have an angle or say 15 to 20 degrees. When they were 40 degrees the angle was to acute and they would slip as I drive onto them. With the one I made the wheel goes right on up easily.

I want them to drive my car onto so it will be easier to get the jack under the jacking points. I can not get my AC jack under the rear to jack from the crankcase without some lumber under the rear wheels. I posted a photo of what I want below. I made this one but it was a pain and if something like it is available for sale commercially I would prefer to buy them rather than make three more of these.

Ron,

This doesn't answer your question, but I can offer a solution for jacking up your car. Mine is also very low (just a bit above RS height). It does require two jacks. I have an AC unit (one of the short ones) and a Harbor Freight aluminum jack.

I first place a jack under one of the rear side jack points, and lift the car high enough to place a jack stand under the front side jack point. I then repeat the same on the other side, but do not remove the jack from the rear side jack point.

At this time, both front jack points are on jack stands, and the rear is high enough to slip a jack under the engine crankcase. I can then jack up the car high enough from the rear to place jack stands under both rear side jack points.

Hope this helps while you are trying to source your ramps.

Ron...
Griot's Garage sells one that supports up to 12,000 lbs and is non skid. <a href="http://WWW.griotsgarage.com" target="_blank">WWW.griotsgarage.com</a> or 800-345-5789. I have NO affiliation with them other than being a happy customer!

I have the Griot's ramps and love them. They are great for quick easy access instead of having to jack the car up. They only cost about $50. I've even used them with my F250 ford diesel and it weighs a ton. Get some speed shine from Griot's as well. That stuff makes your car look like you just painted it.

I just noticed that the Griot's ramps are only 9 1/2 " wide. Is this a bit narrow for 285 tires?

is the degree of incline for the ramps low enough to clear the front and rear bumpers of lowered cars?

Anir...My 285 S02's are approx. 10" wide and "cradle" nicely on the ramps. Any wider size tire would overhang a touch, but I'm not sure if this would be a big problem.
David... My C2S is not lowered ..YET..but at stock height I've got over two inches of clearance between the ramp and car body. So I think a lower set-up would have no problem clearing the ramps.
Cheers to All, Robert

Robert

If you have time, at your convenience could you measure the angle of the ramp? My car has a turbo bumper and has been lowered with RS coilovers, and while I have not measured it could be lower than factory by 2+/- inches.

It would be nice to have the ramps as sometimes jacking up the car and positioning the jackstands is a PIA.

I think these are the same ramps I bought at Walmart for $20. I use them on the 993 but I need to place a foot long 2x10 for it to clear.

How about constructing steps of multiple sheets of plywood glued together? Bill Z

David.... I'll let you calculate the actual degree of angle! The overall length of the ramp is 36", rising 6" in a 24" span, with a 12" saddle. This item is #96910 from Griot's. They also have one in their catalog, item #10142, that is described as "low profile" for lowered cars. This one sort of looks like a WalMart type but has a much longer and gradual extention.
Hope this helps, Cheers...Robert <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

here are the better ones that Griots sells: <a href="http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=10142" target="_blank">Griots ramps with low profile attachment</a>

Heres a pic:

<img src="http://www.griotsgarage.com/images/products/lg/10142_LG.jpg" alt=" - " />

Here are the cheaper variety available at most autoparts stores and wallymart stores usually made under the Rhino Ramps name: <a href="http://shop.store.yahoo.com/rodi/usm11905.html" target="_blank">Rhino Ramps</a>

And their picture: <img src="http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/parts/rhino1.jpg" alt=" - " />

Or you could always do what Greg said and cut a foot long 2x12 and use that as the approach to the cheapest damn ramps you could find.

Thanks to all who have replied. I just wanted something to raise the rear a little to access the side jacking points with greater ease and be able to get my AC jack under the crankcase. My other set of wheels are 11" wide in the rear with 295's so I think the Girotts and Rhino ramnps may be to narrow, and besides the problem I wanted to solve is that of the ramps slipping when I pull up on them.

Bill Z,

I liked your idea so I did just that, a photo is included below.

I used 1/4" plywood, screws and some old carpet. I spaced each piece of plywood 2 1/4" back so I would have a very gradual incline. They work great they don't slide at all when I pull up on them. <img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/Dsc00227.jpg" alt=" - " />

Looks like you have it sorted, but for info, you could try a caravan/trailer supplies.
They use similar things to level up trailers on uneven ground.

I use a couple of pieces of 2x10 for my car, same as Greg. (one day the proper car ramp will be connected...)

Cheers,
John.
