Post Engine question - different parts?

When facing your engine on top of the fan set to the left there is a tube running off of it. I noticed on some other 993's that the tube was not on there at all and an opening with several small holes was visable. I also noticed another car with a tube that went up towards the grill with an opening. Mine does not the tube has numbers beginning with 906 xxx xxx.

I will take some pictures and post them so it will be more clear. I am just wondering if the other setup is for Varioram and one is just removed. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a picture of what mine looks like. My car is a 1995 and this picture is of a 1994. I am confused did they make this setup for 94 and 95?

Click that link above and look at the engine picture and you will see that there is no opening at the top it is a totally different setup. I'll quit having a conversation with myself now until someone replies. Thanks

Know exactly what you're talking about...check out my home page and scroll-down to the engine bay pic -see, no snorkel with holes, as you describe..

I too have wondered why most 993's I've seen have this adaptation, while mine, an 1994 built 993, does not.

Right that is exactly what I am talking about. I wonder if there is an advantage to having the other style with the open holes? Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. Thanks for replying.

I wouldn't worry too much about the other style - ours seems to work just fine..

GTR 933 (whoever you are); couldn't get onto your dopey site below so don't know what the heck you're posting.

I looked at my '95 (build date 8/94); think it has the intake you're talking about (see my dopey picture). Parts CD calls it a "fresh air intake", but that's as far as I feel like digging. There's no add'l data dealing with a specific car option, so I don't know if it was included only on cars with AC (my guess).

Indeed that is weird...
My 993 cab built date of March 94 does not have that while my coupe built date November 1994 does... Both have A/C by the way so I'm puzzled as well... I will ask my mechanic and let you guys know.

Ray thanks for posting but that "DOPEY" site is not mine and you are correct your picture is the same as the one I found on that "DOPEY" ebay site. Maybe you need to check your DOPEY internet service. Thanks Again.

DJ it may do absolutely nothing for performance but if it does I want to change mine. If I dig up anymore info. I will post it. Thanks for the reply.
