I have been thinking lately about changing vehicles (again - have only had this one for 8 months) and I noticed a 2002 C4S listed locally so I went for a drive in it yesterday. WOW - that is some car.
I have always said that I would never own a 996 vehicle - really don't like the headlight treatment , no hips, etc.,etc. - like most of the 993 posters.
BUT, I hadn't realized before this how great this car is to drive. Some have said it's not visceral enough, but it felt pretty good to me. AND - it has some of the curves back into it.
So now, I must say that I am at least open to the possibility of an 02 C4S.
Don't trash me here, how many of you have driven this car? What do you think of it?
I have. In fact it was the first Porsche I have driven. I must admit that Park Place Porsche in Dallas is pretty impressive, they handed the keys to a C4S to me to let me drive it unaccompanied for about 45 mins.
Since it was the first Porsche I had driven, it felt like it had a lot of power, very smooth but like a very fast nice car. Essentially a big go kart. But I ended up getting a 993 C4S and eventually a 993 TT. I'm happy with my choice. It's a really fun car to drive. I have to admit the new 997S looks pretty nice except for the silly interior of course including that hideous steering wheel.
Robert Henrickson: Don't worry, I will get what I like and, sorry it won't be parked in your garage.
Just looking for more information, that's all.
Hi RRLOwen,
Please don't take any offense to some things we say here. We are all part of an extraordinary community and there are many times we joke around. Ray Calvo and Robert are invaluable contributors and Ray often has some funny remarks, which I don't believe are intended to be harsh. Please don't take it the wrong way.
Unfortunately, I am of no help regarding the C4S, but I do like the looks of the 996 widebodies. FWIW, what did you like/dislike about the 996 vs. your 993?
Pardon all of the rancor-it must be too hot in Texas and New Mexico-and before y'all get on me, I'm a bonefide TEXAS EX!!! Right now, IMHO, the 996 cars are the best deal around with the 997s coming out-even the S is affected as they are coming out sooner rather than later. So if you like it I'd say go for it. The 2002 had every problem ironed out and are great cars-especially if you like comfort in a sports car. Just my .02 (or .0166 Canadian)

I'm not sure about this but don't you mean "********" as in without feeling. Would'nt num be a contraction of "nummy" which is a different thing altogether I'm sure.
I have two buddies , both have 996TTs an 01 and a 02. Both tips. Now, very nice very fast and very attractive cars,..especialy the 01 ( lowered) I am very impressed with these cars, the handle beautifully, the ride super, cushy interior.,...But, I prefer my car over both. I can honestly say. I would not trade them even! (well maybe I would, then sell and buy a 993tt, or a new 997s) Maybe its because the only porsche's I have ever owed were 993s I have a soft spot.
IMO, The 996 is a great car for the right person. But it just doesn't have the soul of our 993s ........Now the 997,,,could be very interesting,....I think for the money, I'd go after the 997s
