I agree with Grant in that while ROW gearing is a huge improvement, one could do better if willing to regear the current gearbox, carefully selecting 2nd, 3rd and 4th (and 5th for Fontana) for the track use it will see.
I am more than willing to give up top speed as on the street, I dont think I have ever had it over 100mph.. Just too paranoid...

OK, I spoke to Steve and he convinced me on street ratios which are are shorter than the RoW I was considering. I have pulled the trigger and ordered them. This should really justify the "S" in C4S!
And before I get any snide remarks from the older Rennlist members about my vowing to keep my car "stock" and no more mods, I don't really consider this a mod...just and "adjustment"... I am just going where Ferdinand Porsche would have gone if the bureaucrats had not stepped in... out of respect to Ferdinand you might say...

TS,
It is an adjustment, not a modification. I will post information on this thread once the work is done. Please remind me again then, and I will let you know what the total costs were.

FWIW, I had a transmission problem a couple years ago and had my car re-geared to shorter ratios at that time.
Things to consider:
2nd gear may be fixed to the main shaft (like mine was), so if you want to change second it will cost about $1500 more to get a new main shaft (with 1st) too. RoW gears are one option, but there is no need to stick with them. I had my "old" 5th moved to 6th to save about $1000 and then replaced 2-5.
If you don't have a LSD, this is a great time to add it (I did).
Since you will have spent $1000 to remove your transmission to change it. It's a good time to replace your clutch with the RS clutch and LWF (add about $2000). This is a great change that I'm very happy with.
It cost about $11k to re-gear, and the LSD and RS LWF to my car. The gear work was done by Rothsport (the garage that does the work for Steve W). I have been very happy with thte upgrade, it just isn't cheap.
I have an Excel spreadsheet that allows you to examine all the Porsche gear boxes and create your own ratios to see the effect on rpm vs speed.

Think you could send me that spreadsheet?

Interesting, I just purchased a G50-21 from Gert. Opening the box wasn't an option for me as your into it for a minimum of 1500 USD plus syncros and gears. I think 5-7K USD for the tranny regear is realistic. Anyway, I already purchased my RS flywheel and clutch which will be installed when I remove the motor an tranny. John D. I haven't forgot, I hope your offer still stands. I'll keep you guys posted.
993 RS - I'm interested on how your project turns out.
