One of my headlights is out and trying to find what bulb to use for a replacement. I've been shopping around for Halogen H1 bulbs on multiple sites. However, the Advance Auto Parts near my house has Sylvania Basic Halogen H1 lights. Would these work if I am not trying to improve the visibility in any way? I prefer to keep the headlights classic looking rather than extremely bright.
And while we are on the subject, I was looking for an inexpensive (ha, this is a porsche) headlight fix while waiting for Tore (Bergvill) to offer his new product. Maybe a brighter Halogen bulb as a temporary measure.
BTW, Tore says he hopes to offer it this month, but I’m wondering now when it will happen.
Anyway, via ChatGPT, was looking for a brighter halogen replacement bulb. During my interaction I learned that the original bulb was a H5 dual filament bulb. So I am confused concerning the question about a H1 bulb to replace the stock bulb.
There are plenty of H1 replacements available. But H5’s are seemingly non existent.
Hmmm. I thought the bulbs were H5? One filiment for both High and Low Beams?
all the best, GT
Hi Gregory,
On my 993 Carrera, there are two separate bulbs, one for low beam and one for high beam.
It may differ on the Turbo or the C4s with the original stock Litronic headlamps.
Oops. There are two bulbs as you say. I blame ChatGPT. I will blame anyone or anything but me. Ha.
Andy, while I am tempted to do what you did, I want to see what Bergvill offers before I do anything serious. His system worked well on my previous 993.
Just an opinion here, but the original halogen lights are so laughability bad compared to newer stuff that looking for better bulbs would just go from "very poor" only up to "poor". As an owner of Tore's HID set up, I would recommend you wait for his setup with the new ballast. You will be pleased that you did. What you can consider in the meantime is to order from Porsche new headlight lenses . Unless you have a 20,000 mile car, the current lenses are scratched and sandblasted by years of road grit even if you think they are fine. The difference in the old lenses and the brand new ones is amazing. Take one of your lenses off (easy as they are just clipped on) and look through it toward the sunlight and you see how bad it really is. The new ones will look like Waterford crystal.
@floyd540, We are on the same page. I had Bergvill equipment on a previous 993 and loved it. As soon as the new stuff is available I will buy. And yes, my lenses have been replaced.

Kind of off topic, but I see this is your first post. WELCOME to Rennlist! We have cookies.
They are antiquated and over priced for the electronics and optics you get. If you must have an OEM part, then ok but there are much better alternatives for less than half the cost.

I miss the litronics that were on my Iris Blue Metallic (rear ended at a stop light, KIA). But I'm too cheap to convert, lol. I don't see well at night, so really would like to watch this thread to see if anybody comes up with a best solution. Cheers,
